I said that my tastes were better IN RESPONSE to the person saying people who listen don't care as much about music, and for no other reason and I was reffering to nothing else but that.

but you started off today by saying your tastes weren't better than anyone else's. that it was your passion that distinguished you.

this is what seems to be your major stumbling block. you're acting like music is quantifiable entity, as if there's an accepted definition of what it is and that an increased passion for that definition somehow elevates your tastes above the mainstream listener. in order for that to be valid and true you'll have to provide us with a definition of music that everyone can accept. problem being, i already have my own, and i really don't think you're going to be able to change it.

and UH - what can i say.... i like a challenge? haha (what was that 2nd video?)

Outside of metal completely? :

Grunge (Nirvana, Soundgarden)
Electronica (Goldie, Front 242)
Industrial, non-metal (NiN, KMFDM)
Experimental types of Rock (Morphine, some Radiohead)
Symphony/Orchetra
Hard Rock, non-metal (AC/DC, Velvet Revolver)
Techno of course.

I'm not the one who said my passions distinguished me (I said my band's passion distinguishes them)

Someone else said something along the lines of my passions distinguish me, which is why I said that would qualify for a reason my tastes would be better.

Fair play, there's some good bands there, but its hardly straying away that far from Metal and the whole 'angry adolescent' thing that was tagged by someone in the other thread.

Oh come on, it's 'hard music', people of all ages listen to it, and not all of it is angry.

most of it is popular and on mainstream labels though >.>

No i agree not a lot of it is angry, but a lot of it is listened to by that stereotype that you're trying to avoid.
I know i'm being really petty, i'm just trying to say that there really isn't anything wrong with listening to different types of music just because its mainstream. The whole generalising of pop that you are doing is silly in my eyes as there is really great pop out there which will open up many other genres to be listened to.
I'm off to bed for a bit, but if you want to keep falsely accusing anything because it sells then fine.

My opinion on pop music? music that is popular? of course I don't have a problem with it! what else would I listen to? classical? Music on the top 40? I'd rather listen to someone farting in a bucket.

'pop' is pretty broad. it might be corporate garbage, but it's catchy, fun music that's easy to listen to. and there's nothing wrong with that. people who are so stubborn about pop and hate it with the passion of a thousand fiery suns are just as bad as the ones that that's all they'll listen to and think you're a freak if you don't like rihanna's new song.

"Corporate garbage" is a pretty meaningless statement. It suggests that because something is marketed to the masses by a corporation that it therefore must be garbage. That would make iPods garbage, cars garbage, vacations garbage, computer games garbage, or whatever, the list is endless...basically, any product that is generally regarded as being of worth by society at large, and which abandoning would necessarily result in becoming a hermit.

Needless to say, some corporate products are garbage. Like McDonalds, KFC and so forth. And virtually all the music in the charts.

Then a freak I am, the song is corporate garbage.
