There's hardly any difference between being anti-corporate and being not corporate you realize that? Besides how are Oomph not corporate? They sell their own brand of lighters for fucks sake.

Someone (I already forget who) already admitted that most mainstream fans do not care that musch about music, and simply want it to be background soundtrack or whatever. Now, I will say I am more passionate and care about music more than them and it reflects in my tastes, if you want to say someone who doesn't care that much about music has equal tastes as someone who actually cares, so be it but I don't personally see how they could be treated as equal.

you want to think the music you listen to isn't corporate or contrived because it's not on the radio well, CQ and UH are providing ample examples that it's not the case.
My bands aren't corporate sell outs just because they sell pens.

but for most people pop music is like a background soundtrack for their everyday lives. some people like to let it happen, others like to grab the wheel and chose their own path. neither is better than the other.
Agaoin it's like comparing Van Gough to notebook doodles, if you want to say they are equal have at it.

it's not like metallica and pantera are bad bands, but when you can find their stuff at absolutely any record store you're not going to convince anyone that it's not mainstream.
Other than Metallica and maybe to a lesser degree Pantera, the bands I listen to (if you use my top 10 list CQ constantly brings up) I rarely find thier albums and merchandise at mainstream stores like hot topic. In fact, you cannot find a single Oomph album anywhere is the US unless you are in some larger cities (perhaps, even that I don't know). In average sized, common cities like I live, you find nothing, at all. Places like FYE and hot topic have no static x, they have no coal chamber, they have a couple of rammstein CDs and a couple of Rob Zombies, and literally only a couple.

just accept that you like mall metal.
Ok did you just make that word up?

It's about thier SOUND crowquill.

My local convienience store sells pens and lighters for fucks sake, are they corporate sell outs too?

And there is a huge difference between not being something and actively opposing it. Oomphs music doesn't reflect anti-corporatism but it doesn't refect pro-corporotism either. They sell...lighters, big fucking deal.

They've been on Sony and EMI, two of the biggest companies in the world, how is that non-corporate?

They haven't compromised thier music.

sleepy jack 04-09-2008 07:36 PM

Compromising your music has nothing to do with whether or not you're corporate. They're on one of the biggest companies in the world. How is that not corporate? If they were so non-corporate why are they on such a big, corporate, money-making, part of the system you "fight against", record label?

Oomph is signed to Sony.

Oomph =/= Sony.

They are business partners basically. Oomph is not selling an image, they aren't whores, they are selling purely thier music. Oh and some pens and lighters (can't forget about that, lighters and pens are a huge facet of thier existence)

no. i'm saying your tastes are yours and my tastes are mine. they're both tastes and therefore equal (as personal taste) but different (mine vs yours). NOT better or worse. your coming off like you poop gold or something like you're so much better than the rest because you care about what you listen to as if no one else cares about the music they like just because it doesn't suit your personal taste or that it's mainstream pop.

again. get over yourself kid. no one is going to take you seriously until you do.

No I'm not saying I poop gold I'm saying I actually care about/ have passion for music, which people who listen to mainstream (as admitted by someone earlier) do not. That's all I'm saying If you want to call it equal go ahead but again, it's like comparing Van Gough to notebook doodles.

I'd take Britney Spears over Godsmack any day of the week.

Um, so let me get this straight...

Pop = Their record labels
Oomph =/= Sony...

even though they're both in the same situations to their respective labels. How does that make any sense?

no it's not. you're claiming that because you care about your tastes that they're superior to those who you believe don't. just because they don't care about it in the same way you do doesn't mean they don't care about what they hear, not all radio stations play the same songs or styles for a reason. as it stands you're coming off as pretentious, arrogant, and ignorant.
