Robyn
The only pop star to sing a line like "You're a psychofreaking bootlicking nazi creep and you can't have me" it's Robyn. Some of her songs (example: Show Me Love) are kind of generic and not really worth listening to but the ones that are are so worth it.

i've been to her myspace a couple times. i can dig some electro-pop (see Annie), but Robyn's not doing it for me
Her lyrics are so silly though and the swedish accent is always win.
She has that Victoria Beckam'ish kind of hair, and I totally dig her accent.....its swederific

I saw her on MTV and had trouble in knowing what sex she was.
"Crash and Burn Girl" was alright. I didn't really care for the other two. I think it's just not my cup of tea. But thanks for posting the links. I like checking out different stuff.
BTW, my first thought when I looked at her MySpace page was that she looked like an elf. Hmmm.... |
She is a one-hit-wonder from the late 90s... Nothing more than that.

Anyways, I'm really digging her new material. The Trentemøller Remix of "Konichiwa Bitches" is ace. I also really like "Cobrastyle", "With Every Heartbeat" and "Handle Me"... And I had no idea that "Who's That Girl" was produced by The Knife... awesome. |

electro-pop's my stuff

She had two hits in America in the 90s anyway and went to number 1 in the UK last year so pretty far from a one hit wonder actually.
Quote:
And being a one hit wonder isn't such a bad thing... Jimi Hendrix and the Grateful Dead are considered one hit wonders, obviously more influential than her though. |
But she's had two hits in America...
Quote:
She had three singles released in the US... two peaked at #7 and one at #28 on the pop charts. So I guess I retract my statement about her being a one hit wonder... I apologize. |
Breaking into the top 100 is what I consider a hit .
ok
I'm not really keen on her stuff and her haircut annoys me!

Her songs are catchy... but, the way she sings makes it uncomfortable to watch her videos...
solely focussing on her music, it's ok, but it's not terribly innovative or interesting. |

I'm not too impressed with the other songs though... |
i think she is ok but i am not sure about her look...she reminds me of a confused tom boy trying to act sexy..??
I kind of think she always has looked like a boy, and just because I'm swedish I know that (hah). She sounds pretty good... thought so when I was a few years younger too, but I've never really got her music. As someone wrote it is silly lyrics, can't nothing but agree.
You actually dig swedish accent? I thought everybody hated it, it sounds so dumb when swedes are talking english with a clear swedish accent. Uh.. |
she has been making music since i was born, you gotta respect that. and shes finally making it big again in the us again. i loves me some robyn!
She's a cute, indie guilty pleasure I think. Just fun pop. Better than Britney or Katy Perry.
I remember her first hit in 1995 when she was just a kid ..
I too thought of her as a one-hit wonder, but suddenly her name came up a year or a few ago. Since I don't care that much, it's hard to remember exactly when, but I was surprised. |
Same crap, different accent.
I wasn't sure how I was going to react to her newest stuff
because I remember her from like 96 with the whole Urban White Girl with That Voice persona... and as a young'un I loved her. I'm happy I wasn't disappointed. With Every Heartbeat ft. Kleerup? GOLD. I made sure I bought the album. Plus she didn't completely lose her soulfulness, as it is still evident in her voice. |
I like her different take on music. it's poppy but maybe something about her makes it a bit more edgy
I really like her new album. Catchy yet trendy and cool. I wonder if she's ever gonna become a real global superstar though, her music certainly deserves to top the pop-charts.
I've always liked her song Be Mine, but the Handle Me song is horrible.
I really love Robyn. Well, I really love a lot of artists produced by Max Martin. Her singles are really catchy and fun. What I love most about her though is her voice. It's so unique and girlish... and she has a kind of urban accent, which is weird considering she's Swedish.
That is a bit odd actually. I mean, Scandinavians are known for their excellent English but usually it's more formal.
Body talk pt.2 is out and I'm liking it lots. Yay for quality pop music!
Robyn's has a pretty distinctive Stockholm accent when she sings or speaks I think... I think it is that girly voice that makes it sound a bit unique and urban as you say. She is doing a free web concert where you can give requests for her to sing, talk to others that are watching, talk to her, etc. on Aug 24th. You just book your tickets here : http://livelopet.aftonbladet.se/#

More sweet music from this nice and underappreciated young lady:
I'm really digging her new material. The Trentemøller Remix of "Konichiwa Bitches" is ace. I also really like "Cobrastyle", "With Every Heartbeat" and "Handle Me"...
Her voice is the tops but I really don't like her music unless the Bloody Beetroots remixes it. :hphones:
some production from diplo
this song turned up on a channel I'm subscribed too, I loved it so I listened to Body Talk and I like it. which other albums should I check out? |
