people are free to like whatever music they want, maybe they cant play well but if they have a catchy song or good lyrics people will like them, everyone is diffrent and this is why people like them, if everyone only liked one type of music the world would be a boring place!

I`m just as free to voice my dislike at a band too , the whole point of a music forum is to debate , yet I see very little of it so far.
Now i`ve not seen one single post explaining why anybody in their right mind would listen to a boring , mtv friendly , one dimensional , cliched , bubblegum pop band shamelessly being aimed at a rock audience like My Chemical Romance.
It seems so far all you`ll get out of these people is either...

' I like what i like nobody is forcing you to listen to it'
' you dumb**** i`ll kick your ass MCR are ****ing great'
and the ever present 'people are free to like whatever music they want'

Why do you listen to this stuff even though there are a million & one bands that do this stuff & it`s not original in the slightest?

It may not be orginal but i enjoy the lyrics thier unique and i like the guys voice if all you things thats a messed reason stuff it.

An observation, which in NO WAY says anything about my personal music tastes:

My Chemical Romance cd's are widely available in British record stores. My Chemical Romance videos are often seen on British music channels.

Chinese Stars records, are not.

I might well like the Chinese Stars, but I'm not going to pay over $10 for a 5 track mini album unless I know I like the band.

I can talk however i want.

I like them because I like the lyrics and I can't think of another band whose singer has the same style. Gerard Way from MCR switches up the way he sings (especially in "You Know What They Do..."). I think the music is very catchy and yes poppy at times which leads them to a bigger audience. Then they might tour with a heavier band and some MCR fans might start liking heavier music. If all these bands were underground and super heavy or technical than all you'd hear was Bubblegum Pop like Britney Spears and the like.

'Open discussion' 'voicing of opinions' when did anyone say you cant have opinions? I just find it odd that you seem prefer to only voice your controversial opinions and rarely your non-controversial ones. You're banging on about debate, no-ones saying there shouldnt be debate, you should voice your opinions on music on a music forum but you seem to be trying to start debates unnecessarily just to get up people's noses, though i guess you're probably doing it for entertainment factor.

i love them., thats just my opinion though. seeing everyone seems against opinions here. their lyrics are great and the way they put them into songs is awesome... thats my reason i guess. i dont like how theyve gotten so popular though. they'll never come back to my town because of that. i think people hold that against them too. but dont hate on it because someone likes something you dont. you have your reasons, i have mine.

my opinion is they are good, not to shabby, rules, rocks out, love 'em. but lately i've heard that they are overrated, i dont think so, so i'll leave it to you. is MCR overrated?

Why does it matter? Its beyond me. If other people like a band, so what. If they dont, then so what. It makes no difference whatsoever. But then Ive said this so many times it seems to have no effect anymore. Well, I doubt anyone listened to begin with anyway.. Too busy arguing over feck all.

I think people like to discuss their taste in music with others to try and find their little "nitch" or "clique", and others like to tear those people down because it makes them feel better about themselves. Hence, I think its all a game of whom is better than whom, and who is more "elite" in their musical tastes (judged by their peers).

My personal feeling is that if you want to discuss music, be a little more spacific. If you want to talk about MCR, don't be so general. Say something like "I like (or don't like) the chorus on "I'm Not Ok" because it has a good hook (or doesn't have a good hook)."

Maybe (just maybe!), we could then have a more meaningful discussion about the music itself, rather than the bands image or genre. There is more to a band than how they look and what genre you say they fall into! Lets get back to the music!

as a band, their ok i suppose, quite catchy pop-rock with a hint of goth. but they should do something about that bassist.
