With someone else at the songwriting helm (God help us if Liam does it) then it could either turn out surprisingly good or horrendously bad. My money is on the latter, but either way it'll be better than watching one of my all-time favourite bands pedal out another middle-of-the-road rock album accompanied by the stench of mediocrity.
Whether or not Liams attempt would be better or worse than whoever he drafts in to write the tunes on any futue releases remains to be seen as far as im concerned. He's written some poor tunes but also some really good ones in my opinion. He's written better songs than both Gem and Andy in their time in Oasis.

Is that really saying much? He's pedalled out one good song in my opinion, that being The Meaning of Soul. The moment Noel started sharing songwriting duties was the moment when Oasis died.

It's saying a little more than you're giving him credit for i feel. Both Andy Bell and Gem Archer were songwriters long before they joined Oasis, but of course your opinion on their output is up for debate. Meanwhile Liam had written one song, which was Little James and a definite contender for the biggest load of shit i've ever heard. Liam was nothing more than a singer at the stage, he couldn't play guitar at all and wasn't a songwriter by any stretch of the imagination while Gem and Andy were coming in fresh and at a time where Noel was ready to relinquish control somewhat, one had been writing songs since the late 80's/early 90's in Heavy Stereo and one or two bands before, and the other from a similar time in Ride and Hurricane #1.

At this point if Noel decides to open the songwriting up to the rest of the band then i would have expected to see far more songs penned by Andy and Gem appearing on these records while Liam either struggles or tries to find his feet.

As it happens i feel Liam penned the best song on Heathen Chemistry, which was a poor record. I of course mean Born on a Different Cloud and not Songbird which i really don't like but i was surprised to see it chart so well to be honest. Better Man was nothing amazing but it was just as good an effort as the offerings from the rest of the band on that record.

I think Liam did really well with I'm Outta Time as well and is definitely showing he is capable of writing some good tunes, even if he is still a little inconsistent. I mean, i like Soldier On as well but Ain't Got Nothin' was piss.

Andy Bell penned the best two songs on Don't Believe The Truth i think and Liams werent fantastic but really i would have expected Andy and Gem to have been consistently out-writing Liam and they simply werent.
