Prefab Sprout
A perfect example of good quality pop music. Prefab sprout were highly regarded in many circles due to Paddy McAloons great songwriting. He had an ear for melody and song construction. They are a band that perfectly embody the term POP, without resorting to cliches. They could still play and write their own stuff but still appeal to the populace (hence the term POP!).

It's unusual for me to buy an album after listening to a preview of a few tracks and Steve McQueen was one of them. It's a wonderfully constructed pop album. I think the post above was correct about Paddy having a great ear for melody and instrumentation.

Paddy McAloon contributed a number of songs to Jimmy Nail's albums, including the outstanding Dragons. Apparently, The Zombies covered When Love Breaks Down. I always liked The King of Rock 'n' Roll. the lyrics to which I do not understand at all.
