Counting Crows

I noticed there wasn't a thread on them, so i decided to make one. They've been one of my favorite bands for years now, and they have some of the best lyrics I've ever heard. anyone else into this band?

sleepy jack 01-20-2005 11:35 PM

Honestly I think they're terrible.

blackTshirt 01-21-2005 12:56 AM

i don't know why, but my answer for the question "what do you think of Counting Crows?" would be "they are so cute" i dunno, i think they are...and yeah, they are talented and....well...cute!

Mr. Jones 01-21-2005 02:00 PM

jibber has a point - they are amazing...there should be more of counting crows in society

TheBig3 01-22-2005 02:11 PM

I think they are too under rated. CC makes great music, and its Folk Rock, but some of those songs will go down in the oft-talked about, never created Great American Songbook.

Mr. Jones
Hanging Around

Yes there pop but those songs will never be old. 50 years from now if someone plays one on a guitar in a coffee shop, young kids will think "that song kicks ass." The begining and end is, even though some of their songs aren't destined for eternal greatness, they will always be great music. Ms. Potters Lullaby is probably one of their best songs, its hard to get into because of its length, but do yourself a favor and try it out.

jibber 01-22-2005 05:07 PM

I think round here is probably my favorite song, although hanging around and mr. jones are up there. colorblind is an amazing song too, I think you'd be really hardpressed to find another band that continually puts out lyrics that measure up to theirs, there are some, but not many. pure genious in my opinion.

Colorblind might be one of the few soundtrack released songs that didn't completly suck, along with Smashing Pumpkin's Eye and RATM's No Shelter

TheBig3 04-11-2006 02:53 PM

They've certainly remained realtivly independant from the mainstream ideal of what a pop act should be. Their strongests point would have to be their lyrics and they ability to tackle a wide arrangement of instrumentation.

They are genre-less as well which I think allows them to channel the muse alot better than some bands who are always looking for the dollar signs.

alice_skyling 04-12-2006 10:08 AM

they are talented! their songs evoke a strong sense of nostalgia... somehow

funny how the first time i took notice of them it was because my church leader misread the band name as casting crowns when we went to hmv to music-shop :3.

Reznorslave 04-12-2006 12:21 PM

I absolutely love the Counting Crows and the main reason is the lyrics. I believe that Adam Duritz is one of the most tortured people on earth besides trent reznor and anyone listening to Kevin Federline!

boo boo 04-12-2006 01:36 PM

Counting Crowes Indie???? http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y28...ticons/eek.gif

I despise them with a burning passion, but i wont say they lack talent (One of their guitarists was trained by Satch, so i have heard) or creativity, i just cant stand their music in general, especially Duritz's vocals.

EDIT: My bad, i forgot about this being a alternative rock forum too, lol.

TheBig3 04-12-2006 09:51 PM

lets also remember that becuase the genre war is an unmarked landmine on these boards, I was just posting where it started.

What genre wars?

NaNaNer 12-26-2006 01:11 PM

Another one of those "healing" bands for me...I was broke..eating raw ramen and listening to ****ty MO rock stations..and the only tape I had was August and Everything After...and I got something from it..something I didnt expect..

[MERIT] 12-26-2006 01:17 PM

I like 'em alot. My favorite track is probably "A Long December". It has sentimental value to me.

NaNaNer 12-26-2006 01:18 PM

Yeah the whole album August and Everything After...is sentimental to me..

Nathan Explosion 04-06-2007 07:42 PM

They are my favorite band. I think they are everything that a mainstream rock/pop band should be. They are extremely talented, original and have amazing songs. I think people judge them by their singles, but if you listen to their whole first album you might realize that they are one of the best bands out their today.

MHDTV 06-30-2007 01:13 PM

Counting Crows

Who listens to them? Personally I love them, but I can understand how Adam Duritz's gut-wrenching vocal style, and occasioanally corny lyrics could be annoying to some people.

lesssalt 06-30-2007 01:55 PM

The first three albums were solid, but after that I lost interest. I think I moved on, as opposed to actually giving them a chance.

joyboyo53 07-05-2007 01:48 PM

i dig CC. favorite track = 'round here' with 'colorblind' a close second.

Frances 07-05-2007 07:23 PM

Sorry, I voted terrible. I just don't like 'em.

TheBig3 07-05-2007 08:25 PM

What aspect?

Frances 07-05-2007 08:39 PM

well, I don't know really. the songs just don't appeal to me. I couldn't say they were bad musicians (they hit the notes they mean to and keep time), but for me it's like they're playing a style of music I enjoy, but doing it pretty damn poorly in comparison to the bands I like. I don't find their lyrics or vocal melody very interesting either.

Now just to clear it up, I'm not saying they are terrible, I'm saying In my opinion, I find them terrible.

TheBig3 07-05-2007 08:52 PM

And which bands would those be?

MHDTV 07-05-2007 08:53 PM

Pearl Jam, Bowie, Tom Waits, Mars Volta, Blindmelon, Lemonhead, and Big Yellow Taxi.

I realise that funny boy:tramp: (<you), but that's not really what he was asking.

MHDTV 07-05-2007 09:17 PM

Ah, I read too fast. Type of bands you listen to.

Frances 07-05-2007 09:20 PM

Hey! You Post Changing Punk!

MHDTV 07-06-2007 05:54 PM

Me? Edit a post? Sheer madness!

undefinable 07-17-2007 09:36 PM

the counting crowes are one of my favorite bands their lyrics are very deep and expose vunerability that many people hide from. round here, mr.jones, and raining in baltimore are my favorites

Frances 07-17-2007 10:18 PM

Ok, Mr Jones is a pretty good song. I'll give 'em that.

Oh my god, did that guy have a matchbox 20 avatar?

TheBig3 07-18-2007 07:27 AM

Valid point, but yours tend not to be gems either.

Raining in Baltimore you say? I don't know if I've heard it but im going to check it out.

MHDTV 07-18-2007 07:42 PM

My favorites are Colorblind, Omaha, and Murder of One.

My avatars? HA! At least I've never taken up a whole page with my bloody avatar! And what've you got now? Nothin.

TheBig3 07-19-2007 08:06 PM

That was Crowquill who did that, and I'm still kind of pissed about it which is why I have no avatar. The point is, your avatars are traditionally on par with a matchbox 20 avatar.

Also, I've been trying to tie this in, but as a forum we can do better than listing out favorite songs. Say something longer, or more in depth...please.

So all my past Bowie and Tom Waits avatars (which between them have been at least 40% which would make them more traditional than my others) are akin to Matchbox 20? Ha! Yooooooooooouuuuuu SUCK!

I can put your old avatar back when I get back, it was a joke sorry.

realgreatidea 07-20-2007 12:54 PM
