I like some of the songs but Adam Duritz is a bit whiny for my taste. A Long December was pretty good the first few times but the na na na na's get on my nerves. The song "Accidentally in Love" from the Shrek movie makes me wanna punch something.

Most of their big hits are pretty mediocre I have to say. But then you have songs like Omaha, Rain King, Mrs. Potter's Lullaby, A Long December, Colorblind...

/facepalm

I hate to come off as some of the more egregious people who mandate their opinion be law, but does this not smack of elitism that you hate their hits but find the deep cuts great?

I mean why don't you just come out and say the radio is more musical retards? I'm not saying you can't dislike some radio hits, but to hate them all?

Just to clarify, which ones do you think are mediocre?

By their big hits I mean Mr. Jones and the song from the Shrek Soundtrack, whatever it's called.

Rain King
A Murder Of One
Omaha
Angels Of The Silences
Colorblind
August And Everything After (I have a live version of the song. Pwn)
Anna Begins
Cowboys
Holiday In Spain

Also, Raining In Baltimore was the first song I ever heard by them, so for that reason its close to my heart, but not one of my favorites.

I fucking love the Counting Crows. I may see them in August....and everything after. I will, unfortunately, have to suffer Maroon 5.

Certainly not the worst band of all time but not the best. My roommate listened to them religiously last year and I learned to enjoy them when he put them on. I think some of their Grateful Dead covers are pretty good.

I think they are a wonderful band, but there is definitely better. Mr. Jones of course is a classic though. I just wish they did more up to the calibre of Mr. Jones. Too bad.

I like them, they write awesome tunes. August and Everything After was the disc I loved too, could listen to it for hours.

For my two bits they are not all that bad if you like to listen to what everyone else has listend to for the last 10 years, take all of that in a condensed format and you have the 'counting crows'. I think that these days for a group to get a certain reach/customer base/listerners, they have to provide some amount of originality.
