There Is A Light That Never Goes Out .... greatest lyrics ever

right-track 04-26-2008 11:36 AM

So, Morrissey saves a rock against racism festival by donating cash after it's sponsors withdrew.
One in the eye for the NME.
I guess Morrissey's feeling pretty smug right now, especially as it's rumoured that the NME were one of the sponsors.

I heard it was NME who pulled out as well, which doesn't make much sense with the court case looming..

I finally went out and got a Morrissey album. I got 'greatest hits'.
I was trying to find the album with the song 'Piccadilly Palare', but apparently that song only appears on a compilation album called 'Suedehead'.
I find it a bit odd that Morrissey is vehemently against eating meat, and yet loves wearing leather shoes.

Hehe, i always found that a bit odd too.
You can also get that song on a comp called 'Bona Drag', which is half early singles, half awesome b-sides, i really really recommend it.

It took me awhile to finally listen to Southpaw Grammar again because the opening track is so intimidating and I must say I'm enjoying it but at the same time the qualities people praise it really bring down the album for me. The drum solo in the middle seems very awkward and out of place (it really doesn't fit with the songs it just sort of happens) and I realize Morrissey experimenting was ballsy but the results were messy. His vocals don't even sound in sync on the opening track. I still don't rank this as one of my favorites but I'm glad I finally listened to. It's got some good songs on it but I really do wish it was just a straight pop album because the experimentations just weren't very good on an otherwise solid album.

Hehe, i know Morrissey and The Smiths often do 'flawed' albums, but i think Southpaw is one of the best examples of it.
Like you said, when he does do the pop songs like Reader Meet Author, Best Friend On The Payroll and Do Your Best And Don't Worry its great, not the best of his songs but they stand up alright.
The Operation, christ sakes, what the crap happened there? Even if i were to excuse the drum solo (WHICH I WILL NEVER DO EVER) its just bloody boring.
The Teacher Are Afraid Of The Pupils however, i adore. Its just epic, its the greatest build up ever and when those guitars blast in i never fail to get shivers. Its experimental yes, but its one of the most majestic tracks he's down, and its seriously one of my favourite Moz songs.

Piss Me Off how do you rank the Morrissey albums? I think for me it goes.

1. Viva Hate
2. Vauxhall and I
3. Your Arsenal
4. Bona Drag
5. My Early Burglary Years
6. You are the Quarry
7. Kill Uncle
8. Ringleader of the Tormentors
9. Maladjusted
9. Southpaw Grammar

Taking out Bona Drag and Early Burglary Years 'cos they're compilations:

1. Vauxhall And I
2. Your Arsenal
3. Viva Hate
4. Ringleader Of The Tormenters
5. You Are The Quarry
6. Maladjusted
7. Southpaw Grammar
8. Kill Uncle

Bona Drag would probably be 2nd if it was in there though.

I figured they should go in since they were mostly (all original?) I feel like I should give Ringleaders more of a chance considering you're ranking. I love Dear God Please Help Me but the rest seemed just like You are the Quarry part 2 to me.
