I used to love them when I thought the 80's was a good musical era for mainstream music, now that I am older and release it is the worst decade for mainstream rock, I see them as just being boring.

Thank you The Replacements, Husker Du, R.E.M., Minutemen, Sonic Youth, Pixies, Camper Van Beethoven.... for you showed me that the 80's were amazing, just need to turn off the radio.

Duran Duran brings back that 80s era, vibe and mood associated with their music for me. (that one/certain memory & vibe locked in/with time)

I'm listening to Big Country by "Big Country" from the 80s as we speak. So yeah, I have a place for that era in my personal discography.

I always liked the funk bassline aspect to their music, and others from the 80s New Wave and Pop era as well.

You might be able to suggest that the (80s) music brings a certain amount of "sophistication" associated, when considering certain bands and artist music from that particular era. Like "Sting" for example, he wrote music on that (80s) level in my opinion.

Duran Duran definitely takes me back, too, but I realize now that I didn't really like much of their music and was more caught up in their popularity and cuteness. They were the only band where I felt the beginnings of teenage adulation. It didn't last long.

What sticks in my mind about Duran Duran is that often their songs seemed to be about shallow topics. "Girls on film," "Wild boys, wild boys, wild boys," "Hungry like a wolf" all irritated me when I was a teen because of the simple, narrowly focused subject matter. I'll try listening to the bassline in their music to appeciate it more.

I did like a few songs. I liked "Rio" for the sound of it and for one poetic line: "Just like that river twisting through the dusty land."

I also like the feeling of aloneness in their song "Save a Prayer." I hadn't watched the video before today. I was pleased with it: it isn't glitzy and stupid like many of their videos seem to be. It felt more like an honest documentary of someone's life...presumably her day after the one night stand...and seemed very personal, for example by showing her feet sinking into the sand and the way she felt the bark of a tree. I hadn't expected to see this sensitivity in a Duran Duran video.

I've listened to portions of around ten of their newer songs. None have snagged my interest enough to make it through a whole song.

I don't totally hate the 80's but I totally dismiss a lot the mainstream acts from the 80's too. I thought the 80's started out interesting but went down hill probably because there was still musical influence of the 70's that still were still being worked out during the early 80's (and then there was a shift probably because of MTV shifted the focus to a more polish mainstream sound). There are only a few songs here and there on the Pop Charts from the 80's that I like, I thought Duran Duran found their niche between of the New Wave and Funk sound of the 70's and the cheesy mainstream Pop sound of the 80's. That being said, kudos to them for being one of the best bands of the 80's - wooo!!

They're not the best band ever or anything, but I still really do have a spot in my heart reserved for this band; after all, when my dad gave me my first personal CD player, one of their albums was in the five or so that came with it.

Duran Duran - "Save a Prayer"

try Skin Trade or their remake of White Lines

I used to like them a hell of a lot, but now they don't really do anything for me as a listener. Still a few decent hits, but not much more. (Like most 80's pop!)

Pretty much this for me. I'd still crank out their greatest hits every now and then, just like I do for ABBA teehee.

i thought Astronaut was a very strong comeback

and the 2 albums following it weren't bad at all

I don't think that is an official video for "Save a Prayer." I've seen two official versions. Anyway, it's a great song, maybe the band's best. I also have a special fondness for "All She Wants Is" and "Ordinary World." Duran Duran does the wall of sound well on many songs. Credit probably goes to Nick Rhodes and the band's choice of producers.
