No.

This album bangs. I want to listen to it a few times before I vote.

Please elaborate on what "Nails" to which you are referring.

I've given it about half a dozen listens since it leaked on Thursday.

Death Grips is Online is an amazing song, one of DG's best. They're basically perfect when it comes to album openers.

Black Paint is also really great. It's the missing link between JD's "rock" tracks and Bottomless Pit's noisy pop tracks.

But after that... I find the rest of the album either average or just flat out bad. Some of DG's worst material is on here (****show, Little Richard, The Fear, Horn Section, Linda). The rest of the other tracks have some good ideas, but don't come together or are watered down by bad ideas.

Another thing about the album as a whole is it lacks that trademark Death Grips' accessibility. I know that's an odd way to describe their music, but the one common thread between all of their releases is that buried underneath the aggression, noise and experimentation is a nugget of a hook or catchiness in their music. And that's what makes Death Grips interesting and fun. Year of the Snitch mostly lacks that infectiousness. It just feels weird for the sake of being weird, and it actually makes it a boring album as a whole.

Compare some of the tracks on this album to something like Birds from GP. I would say even today, Birds is still one of their weirdest tracks to date. But, I can remember the little synth fills throughout Birds, or the "I got tomorrow coming" hook and I probably haven't heard that song in months. I listened to YOTS 30 minutes ago, and there's 3, maybe 4, hooks that I can recall. Everything else is lost in the ether.

5/10 for me.

The only track I don't really like is The Horn Section. And my only major gripe with the whole album is that the production sounds kind of muted. On the other hand, The Fear, Dilemma, Streaky, Hahaha, and Black Paint are especially good tracks.

Also Ki I think it depends what you're already into. If you like hip hop, if you like punk, if you like experimental or electronic you might be into DG; there's pry some song of theirs you'd enjoy but it might not be worth digging through their discography to find it.

8/10 for now, it will probably go up later. It's definitely not my favorite DG album but it's still a great album. "I don't know dude I just- I just drink blood dude"

The only track I'm not really a fan of is "Ha Ha Ha" because of the lyrics, but the music itself on that song is still pretty good. Aside from that my only complaint is the sort of muddy mixing on some vocals. This is one of my favorite releases by them already, I was really hoping they would commit further to the digital hardcore side of their sound (very satisfied there), but they went so far as to incorporate psychedelia into their music too. It's gotta be their strangest release yet and I love it.

I would argue it's the most experimental yet in terms of their own sonic diversity, but not when comparing to all music. Also, nice trick there.

fuck ass bitch
