I am very excited about this release. I've had it on back-to-back for the last three days.

Tristan_Geoff 08-19-2017 01:14 PM

Good shit

(but not great shit, at least not yet)

Alfred 08-19-2017 05:31 PM

Great album, but a lot to take in. I already like it better than Daisy, that much is for sure.

Paedantic Basterd 08-19-2017 11:54 PM

I hated Daisy. "Not Daisy" was pretty much all I was going to ask for from them, but this exceeded even those expectations!

You didn't like anything from Daisy?

Absolutely hated it when it came out, and now I have graduated to casual indifference to its existence.

Justthefacts 08-20-2017 03:41 PM

Fair enough. It's on streaming now, so I'm sinking my fangs in it as we speak.

FaSho 08-20-2017 07:03 PM

it's so god damn good I'm so god damn happy

Pat Monahan's Hairy Chest 08-20-2017 08:20 PM

I gave it a listen today.

****ing good. My tentative favorite tracks are "Same Logic / Teeth" and "451."

Paedantic Basterd 08-21-2017 05:43 PM

Those harmonies throughout Can't Get it Out are so great. Especially the swells in the last chorus.

I've finally gotten around to listening to this album with my headphones and I totally agree on that song.

I am absolutely enamored with the album, which is something I never thought I'd say for this band. I could respect their past, and even find some really enjoyable tracks off The Devil and God and Deja Entendu, but I've loved this album from start-to-finish. Definitely top 10 for 2017 for me.

Paedantic Basterd 08-23-2017 11:52 AM

TDAG was an album that came to me at the right time in my life, and as a result, ranks among my all time favourites. That's a hard thing to live up to though, even if I hadn't hated Daisy, so to be honest I kind of gave up on them.

This album though, it's unexpected, yet makes complete sense, and is better than I'd hoped from them. Haven't been this excited about a release in a few years now.

EDIT: This is my number one album so far and it would take a lot to unseat it at this point.

Plankton 08-23-2017 12:08 PM

Never heard this band before. Listening now...

Edit: Definitely good for lowering the blood pressure in a few places. Gonna have to spin it again while I'm not at work to get a better feel for it.

"Batter Up" is still the favourite from me, but it's wonderful from front-to-back. Daisy was my intro to Brand New so I have a different view on this band than most. I think this one may rank as my favourite.

Mastered so f**king loud!! Epic Mixes

Zer0 09-02-2017 01:51 PM

This album caught me by surprise. Not just because they released it without warning, but also because I wasn't expecting much from a new Brand New album based on the two previous singles they released. I've really enjoyed listening to this album over the past couple of weeks, and I will probably grow to love it as much as Deja Entendu and TDAGARIM.

BRAND NEW RELEASED AN ALBUM???

Honestly, I really like it from the first second (just opened it now). But I really appreciate music that focuses on internal rather than external structures. What I mean is that I think the people who make up Brand New make their music to talk about what's interesting to them, and other people liking it is just a happy result from that.

Other ideas:
The bass is pretty good from the get-go, too, which I appreciate. I like that there's a weird mix of low-fi and high quality sound going on, though at times it's jarring.
The keyboard (or whatever instrument is making those sounds) going on is great.
The vocals have gotten stronger & more concise

Overall, good stuff! Really gives me The Perfect Circle vibes but friendlier/more hopeful

This album was pretty good. I enjoyed it.

Justthefacts 10-06-2017 08:29 PM

Not a fan. The Devil & God Is Raging Inside Me still reigns superior in the emo-sphere.

Just kidding the first half rocks, the 2nd half completely drags on and I lose interest very quickly. The first few songs up until Same Logic/Teeth are great though. Shout out to Brand New.

Justthefacts 12-11-2017 11:00 PM

I haven't seen this record on any year end lists at all. I thought people liked this album.

at the risk of spoiling it for everyone awaiting my year-end list with bated breath, this is most likely still my favorite album of 2017, though in all honesty I haven't played it all the way through once since the Jesse Lacey allegations, and have only listened to tracks from it when they have come up on shuffle
