Crush Songs - Karen O
Crush Songs - Karen O The lovely, beautiful, f'ing gorgeous Karen O has ever so-kindly streamed her new debut solo record, 4 days ahead of its official release. Too bad I can't listen to it because my IPad officially blows, and I can't download music anymore either. Regardless, this has been THE most anticipated album of mine in awhile. So I'm sure you can feel the excruciating pain I endured when I pressed start and the music didn't. Anyone give it a listen yet? I'm pretty curious about what else she offers besides the two tracks I've already heard, they both sound similar in production. Damn good songs though. http://m.spin.com/articles/karen-o-c...ah-yeah-yeahs/

Now that I've properly listened to this record about a dozen times, since it's a little more than 20 minutes, I have to say what everyone else seems to keep saying; it does feel uncooked, demos of what could have been brilliant tracks. But, with what's given, I'm not the complaining type. The album feels very cohesive, Karen O's vocals as vulnerable and pleading as she's ever done. I'm not blown away, but I am enjoying this more every time I listen to it.

I definitely feel Karen O.'s voice is the strongest aspect of the songs (that I heard), but they lack the punch of my favorite, more instrument-heavy songs by her as part of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Coincidentally, earlier today I was listening for the first time to "Rich" by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and I like that song approximately 1,000 times more than "Rapt" because the former sounds so much more powerful and distinctive to me. I am underwhelmed by the "Crush Songs" album so far, but I'd listen to it if I could get it all (for free). "Rapt" from Karen O.'s Crush Songs album Meh. Sounds like a wet wash cloth that has been hung up to dry. vs. "Rich" by Karen O. and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs This I like. Sounds like a cat screeching in a clothes dryer going round and round with shoes in there, too (not to be attempted in real life).

The whole albums on youtube. My opinions not changed from what I said prior, and I'm not listening to it on the regs as I was when it dropped, but it's still moderately enjoyable.
