I ****ing love it, obviously. I think it might be my favourite of hers actually.

I may have to check this out. It's getting good reviews everywhere, though I have no idea what genre it is, and I don't think i've ever heard of the artist before.

I'm split on whether I should bother buying this one or not. Three M.I.A. albums in my collection might be enough M.I.A. for me. Her last one was sort of mixed for me anyway, but I'll check out the singles again and make a decision I suppose.

The first half of this album is a bit rough around the edges. If you aren't already a M.I.A. fan then you won't appreciate it but the easier to digest songs come in with "Bad Girls" and everything else afterwards.

I sorta like most of the songs I've heard on Matangi... But don't you think Maya sounds a bit subdued on her latest outing?
None of the new songs on Matangi reach out and grab me like Pull Up the People and Gulang did on Arular, her first album. I think Arular was one of the five best albums of the 2000-2009 decade. |
Bad girl came out as a single a year ago! Its just in the album NOW?!?! Anyways I LOVE Bad girls!
|
I loved M.I.A.'s first album and liked her second a lot, then honestly completely lost track of her. I didn't even realize she had put out a third album let alone this one. So now that this thread has gotten me thinking about her and reading about her again I'm looking forward to checking out both.
I have to say though, that is one ugly ass album cover. |
This record is great
fave tracks "double bubble trouble" "know it ain't right" |

Well... I am an idiot. This is a whole lot better than what I expected. It's unpredictable, switching back and forward with different tunes. The tribal, garage, ambient elements, and hindu cultural sound is met with boisterous and capricious beats. Then you got the whole Arabian sound in Bad Girls, and the reggae tunes. The auto tune doesn't sound horrible. She definitely has an edge and this pushes the gates through the music wall. The variety in this album is pungent. Gotta agree with Janszoon though, the cover is horrid. |
y'all never heard Bad Girls? It was everywhere like 2 yrs ago lol

Did you guys have your heads buried in the sand? You couldn't escape that song. Being in trailers and commercials all over the place. |
I need to get around to listening to this album. I love Bad Girls and the video.
|
I remember when Galang came out. Didn't like it at all & thought she was gonna be some no mark who you don't hear of again . Paper Planes was v. different to the stuff I'd heard before.
Will download this off the back of reviews and posts itt. Thanks. |
