I like this definition I have come across in the past.

Quote:
Artpop is pop music whose main aspiration isn’t commercial success but that, ideally, attains that goal anyway.
Talking Heads’ frontman David Byrne was once asked whether he makes art or product. I feel I’m successful, he replied, “when people forget the distinction between the two.”
Unfortunately, a yawning gap lies between that concept, which former rock critic/current sociomusicologist Simon Frith has called “an art-music niche,” and Gaga’s distinctly less utopian notion:
“Some of us are ‘artists’ in this group called ‘celebrity’,” Gaga tweeted, “and what we create doesn’t live on unless there’s an audience to remember it. So I may need your attention at first, so I can sing you my song. But it’s the ‘Applause’ after that lets me know if I’ve entertained you.”
Hell, as she repeatedly notifies us on a recent single, she lives for the applause-plause. Does that really sound like someone with a Byrne-like attachment to the first half of her album’s portmanteau?

Is that song with her and R.Kelly on this album?... If so I don't even want to hear it. I think she is a wonderful artist but that song is annoying.

It's not that bad of a song. I can think of worse songs on the allbum, such as Dope or Donatella.

I want what you are having, Donatella is one of the best songs on that album along with Artpop, MJH and Fashion1.

Jewels n' Drugs and Dope are... somewhat a tragedy.

Gave this a listen the other day. I got the impression it's more of a club album than just pop. I know there's not much difference there. But it was definitely a blast from the past in late tween years to early 20s going out to night clubs almost every night.

Otherwise yeah, nothing much to say about it but the first track is pretty cool.

Same.

Album sounds more Dubstep/Brostep influenced than I expected also. Lots of wobbles.

I like it btw.

Rihanna has dipped into that as well:

I heard "Applause" on the radio the other day and a thought occurred to me that I could possibly pull off playing guitar in place of her voice over this tune. I did a search for a 'karaoke' version of it, and found one where the vocals are stripped. So, now I'm learning it, matching her vocal inflections, and it's actually sounding really good. Good enough to enter into a "March Madness - Anything Goes" competition on one of the guitar forums I frequent.

Wish me luck!

Good luck and don't forget to hire a vomit painter to puke up on you.
