I heard this album right through once, and thought it was not bad but not great either. I also remember thinking that the album took a while to get started, It was not until "Queenie Eye" that I started to get interested. The better songs seemed to be saved for later on on the album.
My opinion of McCartney's solo career has remained largely unchanged over the years, and this album did nothing to alter that opinion: he is capable of genius (we already knew that) but most of the time he seems too lazy to conjure it up. This album is probably better than 90% of albums released by "new" artists - let's say those whose careers did not start until after the millenium - but good grief, that's not saying much. I gave it 3/5. |
