my mistake
i was going to attach a poll..but failed...ihope i followed the instruction
what do you guys think about this album? |
I felt Cole was trying far too hard to convince us he was capable of making a classic album. He flip flops his style too much on this album, he's trying to darken up his act in places and seem more colder and less emotional then on the next track he'll go back to his nice guy role.
I'm not sure Cole knew himself what entirely he was trying to create here. I do feel bad for him, the guy's talented and I really enjoyed his work up until Born Sinner. But I just feel he tried to step into boots he wasn't ready to fill. The fact that he thought he could compete with Kanye by bringing his album release date forward and then getting completely blown out the water just proves he's not ready to make the classic album he so desperately longs to create. |
I agree
wow you very critical.i still love jcole tho!

I'm a Cole fan. I just feel the record tried to be something it wasn't capable of being.

There were only two tracks that stood out and didn't really work with the overall theme of the album.
Power Trip and Crooked Smile. Which other ones are you talking about? Quote:

Let Nas Down is the best song on the album...overall i was disappointed by it, still think the mixtapes he did before he got a major deal was his best work

Cole's album is instantly forgettable and it doesn't even highlight what he is capable of. It's dumbed down and lacking in substance without even retaining any pop value as most of the time it's just lukewarm and generic. From the looped Biggie vocals on the opening track, I knew Cole was trying to forcefeed us the notion he had finally created a classic, in trying too hard to take aspects from other 'classic' albums and throw it into his product he just created a contrived and unfocused piece. This is why his mood flip-flops so much in the album, there's no focus. No direction. His EP Truly Yours 2 which dropped a month or two previous to Born Sinner was much better than this album overall, in my opinion. I like Cole and some tracks have definitely grown on me especially She Knows, but he can do much much better than Born Sinner. Quote:
