I mean, he has done his version of Death Grips/B.L.A.C.K.I.E./Saul Williams but yeah, you don't hear it ever in the mainstream.

I thought Death Grips were kind of mainstream, no?

Anyway, I agree with what you're saying here. He's done a poppier version of the kinds of artists you mention (along with others like Dalek, Milanese, etc.). I definitely give him credit for changing up his style and think this album is easily his best release, but it's not something I see as all that groundbreaking considering that it has so many precursors.

That's kind of arguable. They have become a big thing, but I doubt anyone would have considered them "mainstream" at the point when they released The Money Store. Although I did buy that album in HMV

I sure don't think radio stations in my area would play Hacker or The Fever. There's no chance Death Grips are mainstream. They're well known to us but we're all music nerds here. It's not like 99% of the world has heard of them or would be able to appreciate them.

There's probably nothing that 99% of the world has heard so that's not a very helpful definition of mainstream.

I forget what label they are/were on but if you consider them being signed to a major mainstream then they are.

The more I listen to this album, the more I like it.
At first, I thought it too dark for me to be able to listen to it casually, but I just did!

This will quickly become one of my new favorite albums.

Yeah it's awesome. I can accept people genuinely disliking it or whatever, but there seems to be a lot of baggage attached to some of those who don't like it. "He's hopping onto a sound", "He's not really the first to do it" etc. I wanna know what you don't like about how it sounds in your ears.

Yeah, it seems like a lot of people weren't really listening to it.
For the same reason, though, it seems like some people are liking it for pretty weird reasons.
But I mentioned this in my earlier posts.
