I'm looking forward to hearing it. Also I wonder, does anybody else find the cover art to be mindlessly uninspired and/or kind of stupid-looking?

It's a pretty good album. It probably sounds more like U2 fronted by a young Leonard Cohen than any of their previous ones do. I think this will go down in history as a signature sound of the late 2000s/early 2010s.
I have another prediction: In the 2030s, songs from this album will be featured on the soundtracks of films made about friends who are in college now getting together for emotional reunions. Probably also films about the crumbling marriages of couples who are in their 40s and are reviewing how their bittersweet relationships began and ultimately end. People who are in their early 20s now will relate to those films in no small part due to the inclusion of these old songs by The National. Anyway... it's a good album. I personally prefer their previous ones.

I listened earlier today. I was captivated by the hopelessness and defeated nature of the album. The whole thing reminded me of a heart retching movie scene where everything's in slow motion and one protagonist sees the other dying in the distance or something.
The whole album's beautifully structured and revels in its bleak atmosphere. It's already my favourite album of theirs. |

This album sounds a bit like Boxer Part 2, which in the future may work for or against it. This is because Boxer is one of my favourite albums of all time. On the other hand, I prefer my artists not to try the same thing twice. High Violet was a bit of a flop for me though; not bad by any means, but pales in comparison.
This will either grow stronger with repetition as Boxer did, or just be forgotten entirely. Humiliation is a fantastic track though. |

If I wasn't so heavily involved with Random Access Memories, I'd finally give this a listen. And I made this thread!
