I think the middle of the album is particularly strong.
It's a good album, it's just a shame it'll probably get lambasted for the 22 year wait or the inevitable comparisons to Loveless.

Blows the crap out of any of the shoegaze revival stuff I've heard over the past couple of years.

This was pretty great from last year.

God, there's a White House Petition thing asking the Obama administration to make the website work.

Stayed up last night and downloaded this.. Definitely worth the site-crash! I'm liking it about the same as Loveless. Two tracks that really stand out to me are 'new you' and 'in another way,' although I'm liking all of them. 'nothing is' was a bit weird at first, but after a few more listens and paying more attention to the sound progression it's grown on me.

She Found Now is one I am really enjoying. I am guessing that is Kevin singing.

I've posted about it already in their main thread, but I'll just reiterate here that it's a great damn album. I think it shows more growth than people are letting on. They were faced with the challenge any shoegaze band has...how can you really expand on hazy fuzzed out layered-beyond-belief guitar music? Most of what can be done has been done. Their challenge was even harder since they technically kick started the whole thing. So with that, I think they exceeded themselves. It's actually better than I was expecting. They made a really smart move starting off very Loveless-like and then moved on into material that's a bit different. The middle and very end are phenomenal.

Early impressions...

I think there is a lot more repetition, more along the lines of ambient and drone compared to the fairly straight forward song structure on Loveless. Also, this album is a lot softer than Loveless. There is a lot more space on this album and it's not nearly as heavy, even compared to 'Sometimes'.

I'd say my favorite track is the opener 'She Found Now' which is pretty much the opposite of my favorite Loveless track, 'Come in Alone'. I wish the album stayed more along the lines of that first track, but I'm pretty amazed at the differences between the songs despite their obviously shoega...ze.......ness.

Second impression is much better than the first and leads me to believe this album is a grower, and one that requires headphones to really get into. I guess I don't know why I expected the sound to be any different so perhaps I was overly judgemental. I do like how they released the album, let the anticipation just build up, then a silent release that took everybody by surprise.

While I am not a purist in any way, this album is important enough to me that it warrants purchase. I went with the CD+digital download from the band's site. My order got fucked up royally but seems to have been resolved. I even got an apologetic personal email from Ms. Ann Marie Shields along the way of rectifying the problem.

So.. my point is that I have not listened to it in full yet because I am awaiting receipt of my purchase.

However, since the songs were put on Youtube in a piddling 192kbps format, I listened to some. I love everything I have heard.
To me this album is like getting an Xmas present that I have wanted for years (decades really) but simply couldn't have. I expect to give it the highest praise possible, based on the several songs I have heard.

I'll submit a proper vote once I've ingested the thing.
