My modest opinion
Hello there
I am not expert on Muse as you are guys, and not a hardcore fan too. But I listen to the whole album on some music site 3 or four times and I think that some tracks are excellents. Liquid state imho is a GREAT, emotional song with a damn catchy and melodic riff on a powerful base. The quality of the sound is far beyond the average recording you listen to today. As players the Muse are first class and the bass lines are incredible. Cheers |

I got it for my dad and have heard it twice now. I cannot say I'm a fan of it. It's nothing compared to their older albums.

I enjoyed it. You can hear that they were going for a singles era where only favorited songs are downloaded. It's a shame they released it on the brink of the free music revolution that is bound to happen. If they had waited to release it like radiohead's pay what you want album I bet it would have been even more successful. BUT they have a label to keep happy. I hear their live show is nevertheless amazing than it was before.

I do love Muse, especially Showbiz (my favorite of theirs) and The Resistance, but The 2nd Law disappointed me. It's still a very solid album, and I can obviously appreciate Muse's willingness to experiment by blending other genres into their music, but it all feels disjointed. There's EDM, followed by alt rock, followed by more EDM, followed by dubstep. It just doesn't feel like the whole album came together under a proper sound.
That said, I still rate it an 8/10 because while it doesn't succeed as an entire album, almost every song individually is strong. I especially love the Bowie-esque "Panic Station" and the underrated "Madness." |
