Well, yeah, they were trying to sound like 70s/80s arena rock. "I Believe in a Thing Called Love" and "Get Your Hands Off of My Woman" were pretty good, and hilarious songs imo, though I never really had any interest beyond that first album.

I think they kind of do though. They have a much more deliberately goofy vibe than the bands they are inspired by. And their sound is an updated version of arena rock, sort of like how the Stray Cats were an updated (at the time) version of rockabilly.

Yeah, the first time I heard the album I thought it was mediocre. Then I listened to it 6 more times in depth and I grew to really like it. It's probably somewhere between the 2nd album (the best) and the 1st album as a whole.
