Nicki Minaj - Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded
So it's out. And it's under performing in sales. Now I was a Nicki Minaj believer. I absolutely adored her fresh sound, fierce rapping and rapping lyricals. This album however...I'm really not feeling.
I understand her Roman personality comes out in the first half of the album but the pop garbage that spews from the second half has made her so sell herself to the mainstream. I know she's technically mainstream but at least before she had a personality. She compares to a 15 year-old just discovering how to record. I'm still trying to decide if there is a song I can at least somewhat like. She repeats so many of the same lyrics and her use of rhyming is ridiculous. I think Roman Reloaded would have to be the best song of the album, then Hov. Thoughts?

I've only heard the single "beez in the trap" which i'm not entirely sure the meaning behind. It was fun in a very simple way. I don't know why Young Money is pimping her identity to this degree. Shes making pop music that borders on katy perry ridiculousness now. At least as a sex symbol she's getting markedly more attractive (this might have to do with the under performing sales you mentioned). I don't know if there is an actual person underneath all that silicone, fake hair and paint, but as an image for young women to aspire to, I think it's a great standard. |

It seems like she's rapping less and less on her singles now. She'll repeat a hook a few times, spit a short verse that's augmented by skipping, and go back to the hook. Why is someone with so much lyrical talent not even using it?

Honestly, if she would just try that would be enough for me. Even if it sucked, I would respect she's trying to give people what they want. And chances are she would find her niche eventually. Songs like "Stupid Hoe" make me not want to even give her a chance.

Gosh, was Nicki Minaj ever considered a good rapper? Even on Monster... euh
Pink wig, thick ass, give them whiplash I think big, get cash, make them blink fast Now look at what you just saw This is what you live for I'm a mother****ing monster Granted, that minute-or-so verse is much better than the drivel she's been putting out lately but it's still... euh |

She explains some of that here, but do your research. I didn't do mine, and I was disrespecting one of my favorite artists, talking about her and not knowing anything. Which is obv what you're all doing. |

It was in reference to why she has made her music more pop-like. Did you watch the video? I think she's pop too, I'm not trying to prove anything against that.
