I agree completely the good parts of the album are spectacular but the less good parts aren't terrible just boring and unnecessary.

I voted excellent because it's about time hip hop got someone who isn't afraid to say whatever he wants, best rapper of the year so far.
**** the industry

DevonWilliams 09-13-2011 06:50 PM

Goblin, Fish, Analog, and Golden were really good

Listen to Hodgy. Will probably change your mind

Alfred 09-13-2011 10:30 PM

"Golden" gives me the chills more than any other song I've heard this year.

DevonWilliams 09-13-2011 10:59 PM

Can you really call Odd future mainstream?

They are certainly popular, but in no way radio friendly. Your not going to see a young money ft tyler the creator song or anything.

Should be interesting to see where they go from here on out.

When they win best new artist over Wiz Khalifa, they are mainstream. Shouldn't matter if they're mainstream or not. They haven't changed their style up

That post was written in May bud.

Roemilca 09-14-2011 03:05 PM

I like how drastically my view on his music has changed over the summer. He's definitely one of my favorite artists right now.

Hodgy over Tyler? Hardly!

Mykonos 09-17-2011 08:24 AM

Okay, so I've finally given most of this album a proper Youtube listen. Completely and utterly messed up, but brilliant. I only really like Rap when it's impeccably well done, and this album is just that.

vivalachevolution 09-18-2011 09:39 PM

The albums fantastic, Tyler is a madman with his lyrics. The taboo appeal and the beats, even the guys voice is just well put together. Hope this guy keeps up the good work.

Agreed. I think Earl's the best honestly.

Surell 04-05-2012 08:06 PM

Technically for sure, but I think Tyler has some of the best ideas and concepts. Sometimes they get a little too ambitious, but it's fun.

Goofle 04-06-2012 07:43 AM

I can't get excited about it to be honest. A few tracks are great, but it's just about average for me, nothing more or sell. The production is dire at times.

Howard the Duck 04-06-2012 07:47 AM

it sounded "excellent" upon first listen

it's a few notches down for me, now

nothing especially "groundbreaking" about it

still voted "good" neways

Surell 04-06-2012 05:15 PM

I think that comes back to his ambitions getting a little lofty at times. He tried stretching Fruity Loops beyond its sonic capabilities, and his ideas and lyrics can feel a little forced at times. But I think it's a good effort, as good as Bastard but in different ways. I'm hoping Wolf will bring something especially new to the table.

BeerAndBeats 05-05-2012 03:40 AM

I think if he had put out this album with 10 or 12 tracks on it everyone would be going crazy for it. The filler gives too much time to doubt whether its a good album or not

I feel the same way. For example, the album would be much better without songs like "Bitch Suck ****" and "Boppin' Bitch. I think it just doesn't fit in with the rest.

But it's a good album, though. My favourite songs are Goblin, Yonkers, She and Tron Cat. I also like the surprising takes in Radicals, and the relaxing feeling you get from Window and Fish.

it's just "shock" rap, as in the equivalent of "shock rock"

Shock rap is fine, Tyler is just crap at it.

Surell 05-15-2012 05:48 PM

Who's so much better then?

Goofle 05-15-2012 05:55 PM

I don't really feel like going through every "shocking" rap group/artist ever to be honest, but there are probably hundreds who use shocking lyrics in a more successful way.

Surell 05-15-2012 05:57 PM

You're not really proving much. Even outside of "shock" (which I care least about) Tyler is a solid rapper.

Goofle 05-15-2012 05:59 PM

You are adding your own conclusions to my statement. I think he is crap at being "shocking" because he isn't convincing in any way. He is a good rapper though, I wouldn't doubt that.

Surell 05-15-2012 07:52 PM

Well I'd personally much rather he be a better rapper than a convincing boogyman.

Goofle 05-16-2012 05:35 AM

Your tone suggests we don't agree for some reason.

Surell 05-21-2012 09:46 AM

Probably. I am a little confused as to why you'd mention how awful a shock rapper he is if you didn't have a problem with him.

Goofle 05-21-2012 09:55 AM

I do have a problem with him. But that doesn't mean I think he is bad. He just doesn't make great music, and what he raps about is lame. But he is certainly talented and if he put his mind into it, he could make an outstanding album if he stripped away all the nonsense.

Surell 05-21-2012 01:04 PM

I agree, even though I don't think what he raps about is that lame.

Thom Yorke 05-29-2012 08:19 AM

The Odd Future Tape Vol. 2 was pretty bad IMO. I find myself only going to Oldie, and even then skipping to 7 minutes in for Earl's verse. There's nothing else on there that makes me want to go back to listen to.

I thought Goblin would hold up better with time due to people getting over the initial shock that it wasn't the best album ever. I thought it was good then and now, although I don't find myself listening to as much Odd Future in general anymore.

Howard the Duck 05-29-2012 08:47 AM

i don't even listen much to anything OFWGKTA these days

Goofle 05-29-2012 09:28 AM

Too much good music elsewhere to spend time on them.

Howard the Duck 05-29-2012 09:29 AM

14232949 05-29-2012 11:38 AM

I'll stick give Goblin a spin, it wasn't long ago everyone was on Tyler's dick, guess hipsters change their minds.
Still a pretty good record.

Surell 05-30-2012 07:24 PM

i can't get my head around the hate for the OF tape. It was probably one of the more solid pieces to come out of anyone in the crew in awhile, yet it gets knocked.

14232949 05-31-2012 07:31 AM

I think people in large have jumped off the OF bandwagon, I agree with you Surell, I can't see much wrong with it either. But I guess such is life.

Goofle 05-31-2012 07:46 AM

I have never been a fan personally. I like certain OF albums, but even those wouldn't score high marks.

Howard the Duck 06-02-2012 03:32 AM

I was never on the OF bandwagon in the first place, it was just a matter of checking them out because of the buzz, finding that they're awright, not awesome, then proceed to move on to hear other stuff.

Surell 07-09-2012 11:35 PM

X Doubt

Btw how's this record holding up? Personally I haven't listened to it in probably a year, and now I'm guilty for it
