Default The Foo Fighters - Wasting Light

The Foo Fighters released their latest album Wasting Light April 12th. It was recorded in Grohl's garage which is very old school and so far I haven't got through the entire album. To be honest Rope sounds very like some of their older tracks and is rather bland.

First single released is Rope:

Here's a couple of reviews if anyone is interested. I agree with the second article which comments on the fact that the band is more desperate to bring out music but isn't changing or developing, merely getting stuck in their already overdone groove.

Man, the only Foo song I really like is "All My Life"... it's just so much angrier/noisier than anything else they've done (that I've heard). Listening to "Rope", this album seems to be more of the same old bland, cookie-cutter, radio-friendly rock they've been making since... well, forever. Dave Grohl needs less Foo Fighters in his life and more Nirvana and Them Crooked Vultures.

Also, I'm not sure what the differences are between "Okay/Average" and "Dismal/Awful". Seems like unnecessary redundancy.

To be honest, I quite enjoy that old bland cookie cutter radio friendly rock. I haven't listened to the album yet, but Rope sounds like it'll be yet another average-for-foo-fighters yet consistently decent release.

Nothing against Grohl here, but the Foo Fighters lost their mojo after Y2K: the S/T, The Colour And The Shape and There's Nothing Left To Lose are all top class, but everything since then doesn't really stick much to me.

That being said, Wasting Light gets points for attempting to expand their sonic palette: its better than their last two records for sure.

Just saw the video for "White Limo"

It's fantastic. I like the song as well, interestingly sounding a lot like early QOTSA.

I really like this album. I think it's their best since the Color and Shape. I've heard that Kris Novelselvic(Or however you spell it) joined the band. Anyone know if he's a permanent member?

Nope he only guested on a couple of songs I think. Pat Smear is back in the band full-time though.

I'm not even going to bother with this album, I got their last two albums on release and I think I only listened to them twice each. They're a great band live but on record they just sound painfully average. The Colour And The Shape is the only album I can really enjoy.
