I made the thread and voted 'good', but I kind of wish I made some middle ground between average and good. Because it's certainly not a masterpiece or a piece of brilliance, but it's pretty good. I hope it won't get in my top 10 of the year, because if it does then 2011 will be a bit of a poor year.

I just realised why I haven't been able to "love" this album, and that's because it's weirdly lacking. It's like there's a layer to the music that is missing, or that the album is supposed to be some kind of background sound to something else. In itself, it seems like an album of fillers, designed to keep us in the chosen atmosphere, and nothing more.
However, I did like it, as it succeeded in setting my brain to Radiohead-mode (a mode that makes my head ask some pretty depressing existential questions).. So it'll be a "good" for me.

Ok this is so silly but to be frank I just can't stop laughing at it. The new video for Lotus Flower dubbed with Beyonce's Single Ladies:

It's certainly an album worth getting. Even though it's not their best album and is nowhere near being a classic it is a pretty enjoyable album overall. If you're a fan of classic Radiohead i.e. The Bends and OK Computer-era Radiohead then you might have a hard time ingesting it.

I still think it's far too early to be making such assertions. It's been 2 days since its release, and to be saying it is or isnt a classic is just silly. Radiohead albums are known to be slow burners - I didnt really dig In Rainbows, Amnesiac or Kid A until months after their respective releases.

It is, I believe, a very grave misunderstanding of Radiohead to see their music as being difficult. This is born witness to by the general reaction to it. For example, most people either loved or hated In Rainbows from the word go. If anything, what was more commonly seen was that people were waxing lyrical over it to start off with, only to be saying a few months down the line that it wasn't quite so great as they'd initially felt. Neither was Kid A difficult. It was only judged as such because it wasn't what OK Computer fans had expected or wanted. Hail To The Thief is a bunch of easy tracks. Amnesiac is perhaps 'difficult', but simply because it's mostly a bunch of rubbish B-material from the Kid A sessions. |
