The Final Track 08-28-2011 02:51 AM

The first time I heard TKOL I got to Lotus Flower before realizing my earphones were halfway into my mp3 player (that's like listening to Stereo with one speaker) :p: I though it sounded a little hollow.

AgeOfOddz 09-11-2011 02:56 PM

I thought the whole album was too repetive, but at the same time i understand what sound they were going for. Overall i think Lotus Flower and Codex stood out as "great" tracks the rest was just kind of mediocre and trifling. Im not really dissapointed though, just hope that they'll use less loops next time.

I'll definitely give credit to 15 Step and Videotape, but the rest of the album is straight meh. I think the grammy was a gimme personally, just to give it to em for all the really good stuff they'd put out before it they hadn't gotten a Grammy for. KOL deserves it more though.

But Where's your science, anyway?

I think you need to listen to that album again.

Sparky 09-12-2011 11:28 AM

agreed, i remember being all too pleased with myself for dismissing it at first, but it really clicks after a few listens.

I've been waiting for that same sensation to happen with KOL, but's its more of a "oooh this is kinda neat" as oppose to "this is blowing my mind"

i get more of a "why am i not listening to a different radiohead album" sensation when I listen to KOL. Unless their next album is really great, radiohead has officially started to fall off

I listened to IR in its entirety, in fact. It's pretty, but it's really not special. Between 15 Step and Videotape i felt like i could have been listening to the same song, much like Animal Collective's Merriwether, which i also listened to in its entirety recently. My problem with these two albums stand: while they have their cohesion and consistency, they also aren't thrilling like other projects taken on by the two bands.

What, exactly, is so game changing about the in between space of IR?

debaserr 09-29-2011 03:16 PM

There's nothing game changing about it, the game has always been about good music.

Surell 09-29-2011 03:31 PM

Then the game was only halfway "won." Radiohead always makes good music, there is no doubt in this (maybe exempting Pablo Honey). But this is only half of why Radiohead is above every other band: First is the good music; the second is how well they challenge mainstream music conventions, their own conventions, and the expectations of spectators (such as ourselves). This involves changing some aspect of the "game;" ours, theirs, or its. Without this, Radiohead is only half is great as they can be (which is still pretty damn good).
