I know this is supposed to be a thread about Kanye, but I can't help myself:
I loved the album! Wish there were more songs on it, though, but every track is charming and wonderful. Favourites so far are "Sing Swan Song", "I'm So Green" and "Spoon". |

Good ear, as those are my favorite tracks from EB as well. CAN is great...they're like a playground of sound, not to mention sheer wickedness. -I am Damo Ghost Jam |

"Vitamin C" and "One More Night" are also very very good. The two longer tracks are the most challenging, but I'm sure I'll like them just as much when I get to listen to them more! The last half of "Soup" has some really interesting sounds in it. |

Exploring those long tracks is what turns people into CAN heads; as you rollick through a new part of the piece each listen, you become familiar with them and next thing you know you're playing chess and waxing poetic about mathematics with "Mushroom" playing in the background. (not really, but you do get way into it) -Your Move Ghost Jam |

I play Chess with SMiLE playing in the background, now that's intense.
As for a classic status, I think the build and production of the album try to sucker audiences into that mind frame. For it to be a classic, I think it at leasts need to fulfill its own narrative, and its whole concept/storyline falls apart quickly. Here's an interesting article that I think perfectly addresses the idea of classics in Hip Hop as well as my problem with good kid and this album.

I couldn't count the threads on both hands or feet (or tentacles) that I'd be posting that in.

Listening to it now. I just don't get it. The production is nice, but hardly mind blowing like people make out. I can't understand how it would be a 5* album to anybody as it's so forgettable to me.
