I voted decent. Initially, I would have given it a 'good' rating, but I have just recently listened to Slim Shady LP a few times and was reminded of his potential.

Dr.Seussicide 07-02-2010 01:14 AM

Good seems appropriate. It was maybe a few great tracks short of amazing.

crash_override 07-02-2010 05:42 PM

Great album, still not up there with the likes of The Eminem Show and The Marshall Mathers LP, but a strong effort regardless. His lyrical expertise has made a valiant return. His new style of delivery is still in the process of finding itself, but a lot of that has to deal with him experimenting with a lot of different types of beats on this album. Only one track gives production credit to Dr. Dre, leaving te rest of the tracks with a scattered and back and forth feeling. On Fire, Almost Famous and So Bad are the only songs that really sound like a throw back to his old style. The rest of the tracks take on new new form, including techno sampling and even turning a Black Sabbath song into a infectious rap ballad a la 'Sing With Me', the remake of Aerosmith's 'Dream On' from the Eminem Show.

This album definitely put Em back on the right track, and if he continues to move in the right direction, and maybe simplify the production a little bit, we could see Eminem at his very best in the near future.

rammetal7 07-02-2010 06:10 PM

I like Eminem's deeper cuts.

This album did not impress me, I wanted to like it but I did not.

toilnaa 07-04-2010 07:24 PM

I liked it more than I thought I would, but not as much as I would have liked to. (That is double talk for it's a'right).....Hey, he has popular appeal, though, what can you say to that?

slimfire 07-13-2010 12:41 PM

I think lyrically he has surpassed all of his previous albums and any other artist in the game. His puns, punchlines, metaphors, and analogies take a few times through to catch half of them and they are so well thought out that it is clear he is indeed sober. Not too bad for a high school drop out.

nolvorite 07-13-2010 05:06 PM

It's a very good album. Can't say it's his best album, but we'll find out

I disagree with just about every single thing you said.

Well, he's sober on it though, right?

Jester - what do you think of the album?
I want to know if I should even listen to it once.

I've been meaning to - so I suppose I'll give it a listen. I couldn't even get through some of his other recent ones but this one seems like it may be worth it

Stone Birds 07-14-2010 09:51 AM

some of the songs are ok but there's a couple that are terrible like the one with lil wayne (though that's lil wayne's fault)

that's odd because I often think Lil Wayne is better when he does a rap with somebody compared to when he's just the only one in the song

lmao

and i think he's terrible either way, isn't that just so funny

Landon 07-20-2010 05:11 AM

I've given it a few listens and I think it's good, but it's not anything near the Slim Shady LP, The Eminem Show etc. Not Afraid, Talkin 2 Myself, Love The Way You Lie, Going through Changes are my personal highlights. Normally I can't stand Lil Wayne but No Love has grown on me.

The Bullet 07-20-2010 09:23 PM

I havn't heard the whole thing, but so far it goes something like this... I don't feel like I know it well enough to give some of these ratings...

1) Cold Wind Blows- 3.5/5
2) Talkin' 2 Myself (Feat. Kobe)-4.5/5
3) On Fire-4/5
4) Won't Back Down (Feat. P!nk)-2.5/5
5) W.T.P.-2/5
6) Going Through Changes-3.5/5
7) Not Afraid-6/5 first time I heard it, didn't hit me as hard the second, 3.5/5
8) Seduction-3.75/5

overall- 3.75/5

I have a feeling it's gonna grow on me, though.

Its been growing on me. Its not like his other albums so I feel like it takes a degree of adjustment. Its a lot more honest.

I like it when it's honest, it's when he follows a Marshall Mothers song with an Eminem song that ticks me off (if that makes any sense)

Why? Are you gonna explain yourself or just hit and run? :bonkhead:

TumorAttitude 07-23-2010 12:28 AM

It would be a wonderful album if it wasn't so damn overproduced and every song wasn't structured out like a single....
He sounds miserable for most of the album. I think Eminem makes the best music when he's pissed off but hopeless depression suits him fine. The lyrics are a little quirky, and even when he seems too depressed to crack jokes, he's cracking them. A few of the songs are absolutely terrible ("Cinderella Man") and on a couple of the tracks, I think he just gave up halfway through, but it has its moments.

I'm not an Eminem fan at all, but come on, he's obviously not better than he was when he released MMLP or SSLP.

As far as his writing goes? He's still cheesy as all hell.

Oh, and I disagree with the idea that it takes sobriety in order to write thoughtful raps.

Actually, I think that most people would argue that Eminem writes better when he's on drugs. He wrote both "Relapse" and "Recovery" while sober, right?

Jester 07-24-2010 07:39 PM

Uh, it's like

"Sorry for Encore, I was on drugs. Oh, and sorry for Relapse, I was flushin' em out. But now I'm back and I'm sober and I won't let you guys down!"

And I don't know how people feel about Eminem's writing drugged vs. sober. I'm just saying thoughtfulness doesn't dwell exclusively in sobriety.

The Abominable Homan 08-05-2010 09:52 AM

This is no Marshall Mathers LP, but it's still a pretty strong album and the best he's made in a while. However, I cannot stand Lil Wayne's rapping and it completely ruins the song he's on for me.

thank god someone shares my opinion about lil wayne

The Bullet 08-07-2010 09:17 AM

Well, after listening to the album all the way through a couple of times, I voted decent. I was deciding whether to vote good or decent, and then I told myself to be a critic. Anyways, I have to say, while a good third of the album is filler, the rest ain't bad. My personal highlights were the first three songs, Going Through Changes, and 25 To Life. I had a fantastic first impression of Not Afraid, but it never hit me anywhere near that hard again.

Completely ruins the song, I just fast forward to Em's verse

Dom 08-11-2010 04:06 PM

I've never really been a fan and when I decided to give the single "Not Afraid" a genuine chance I found it really lackluster and generic. Is this true for the rest of the album, because at the moment I'm really not motivated to listen to it.

Stone Birds 08-19-2010 04:15 PM

hmm pretty much the entire album is that generic

and i actually have listened to it my mom played it in her car one day while we were driving around in omaha

Dylanist 08-21-2010 11:11 PM

I find this record the proper return to form that I think was needed for him. Relapse may have been a good, almost allegorical, representation of his struggle with addiction. But this album, along with his return to the airwaves seems really symbolic of a successful triumph over addiction - which in itself is beautiful.

Musically, he passed the test. The beats are all solid. He stills murders tracks.

And I absolutely love the album cover because it really seems to capture what I'm experiencing aurally.

nike22 08-22-2010 03:11 PM

Not the best album he has made but its ok.

sorana 09-09-2010 03:08 AM

It's a very good album.Good recovery.

emostreetguitar562268 09-09-2010 01:07 PM

i thought it was amazing, one of the best albums hes put out so far.

stoopidmonkey 09-26-2010 12:44 PM

I voted decent, definately better then relapse.

The Bullet 09-26-2010 06:01 PM

I remember voting "desent" a while back. It's grown on me a lot now, though. I'd vote good if I hadn't already voted, for sure.

METAShift 11-02-2010 03:29 PM

Certainly an above average album, but it's a bit of a shame that the track getting the most airplay(The Way You Lie) is one of the worst tracks on this.

Scarlett O'Hara 11-15-2010 05:04 AM

Am I the only one that can't get past The Marshall Mathers LP? Couldn't stand his other albums. I'm going to give myself a day to listen to the album and decide if Recovery is anywhere close.

thisisit 11-15-2010 08:34 AM

I voted good. Eminem is awesome, but when he sings I want someone to take a **** in my ears.
