Aphex Twin, Autechre, Boards of Canada, and Milieu would be four artists to definitely check out.

The last two aren't explicitly IDM but they're in the same region of the musical spectrum.

There's a thread dedicated to Clark also on the first page. He's a classic idm artist. Also, check out a youtube search for Zephyr Nova. He used to make some excellent idm back a few years ago, and there's a handful of his stuff on the youtubeys. Here's a christmas-themed one:

Funky?

I want funk! But new one in the spirit of house or electro, im looking but its really hard to find some good tracks. What i'm looking for is futuristic funky dance music. I have some songs that have wonderful intros! But they get to much later on, too much dubstep or electro..

Intros of these songs:

Savant - Starfish (Original Mix)- 8-bit funky (love everything before 1:10)

KOAN Sound - Meanwhile, In The Future - Funk (love everything but a little too much dubstep after 1:15)

This is wonderful:

Silicone Soul - Feeling Blue ( Go Go Bizkitt! Remix) - Quite Funky :)

Tahnkful for all resposes, peace

Zebras 12-09-2012 03:27 PM

Funky stuff?
Funk stuff!

bamsehopp 12-10-2012 03:33 AM

thats cool! really funky. Although i'm sortof looking for something more house'y...

a bit like:
Calvin Harris - Acceptable in the 80s
Gorillaz - 19-2000 (Soulchild Remix)

Possibly Daft punk - Short Circuit (Wuki Remix)

bamsehopp 12-13-2012 06:39 AM

heh feels wrong somehow to answer my own posts but if someone else out there is looking for great Electro funk I just want to share my findings:

TJH87 - Break Away Kicks! (Stereocool 'Sunrise' Remix) - (Funkyypanda's channel on yt)

Monsta - Where Did I Go (Dillon Francis & Kill Paris Remix)
Kairo Kingdom – One Two (Pretty Crazy but awesome)

KgZ, he does mainly dance, chiptune, and electronic jazz stuff. A great starting tune would be "Sly."

Anyone have any suggestions for desolate, icy-sounding electronic music? I'm looking for the kind of thing that's evocative of empty, frozen landscapes lit by starlight.

I'm not sure if this is what you are looking for but it seems good to me!

misspoptart 01-24-2013 01:25 AM

This isn't electronic (really), but it's the song I always listen to while walking in

Maybe you'll like it anyway, Janz!

Not bad! It's more upbeat than what I'm looking for though. I'm trying to find something very moody and desolate sounding. The song "Gone" (album version) by M83 is a pretty good example of what I mean, but I can't find a YouTube video of it.

I did like it! This kind of mood is pretty close to what I'm looking for, though I'd still like it to have that frosty electronic edge to it.

Either of you have any other suggestions?

I can certainly dredge up a bunch of Dark/Black Ambient that fits your description:

Most of this kind of music has a tendency to live within the sort of criteria you describe.

Janszoon 01-26-2013 09:30 PM

^Very cool stuff Freebase! I'm definitely interested in checking some of those artists out, but it's quite a bit more subdued than what I'm looking for. I guess I'm not explaining it well. I'm looking for cold and desolate but also vast and powerful, like a glacier or a snow covered mountain or an ice sheet stretching to the horizon. I'm thinking of something like this (skip to about 2:45 if you want to bypass all the build up):

Hmm... to me that sounds more uplifting, bright and warm. I think more of a daytime sky and clouds when I hear that M83 song. But I can check around for stuff I may have or know about, or can find out about, that mimics that sound in the M83 song. I just wouldn't describe it like you did.

It's interesting how two people can hear such different things in a piece of music. That song I posted is definitely cold, lonesome nighttime music to me. It's big and powerful sounding but also heartbreaking. Maybe it's just that I'm basing my opinion on the album version which I unfortunately couldn't find on YouTube.

Yea, to me everything about it screams uplifting. Certainly not depressing or sad in any way. The only way I can equate that to anything tearful is if we're talking about the kind of tears that someone would have being reunited with their family after many years of torture in a North Korean prison camp.
But even then, it's still uplifting.
Because no more North Korean prison camp.

I don't think it's depressing either, that's not what I'm looking for. To me the sort of frozen landscape that the song evokes isn't depressing, it's starkly beautiful and desolate, vast and humbling. It's like being somewhere wide open and empty where you can see millions of stars in the sky, and staring up them is overwhelming in its beauty but also sobering with the realization of how very small you are.

Man, you should have said that to begin with! lol

So... any more suggestions from anyone for my request?

misspoptart 01-30-2013 08:19 AM

I dunno, Jans, you threw me with the song you posted. I definitely don't know what to give you now that you said it should sound like that! :P I agreed with Dali in that it sounded more upbeat!

lol. Maybe that live recording just sounds upbeat if you've never heard the album version or something. To me it's a very desolate, starkly beautiful sort of song, filled with feelings of introspection and vast emptiness. I assume the band felt the same way since they titled it "Gone".

LoathsomePete 01-30-2013 09:17 AM

You might want to try Tim Hecker's 2011 album Ravedeath 1972. I'd say it's the perfect ambient soundtrack for a Fallout game, where you wander bleary eyed through the haze of some post-apocalyptical world. I don't know if it will fit in with your icy glacial sound though, it reminds me more of vast wastes.

Hello,

I really love "deep" "full of bass and sound" music. I have found something what sounds AMAZING, but it's a game soundtrack please take a look:

(delete space)

I have a very big request to you mates. Could you please give me names of Electronic music bands which make this kind of music. I mean, really music full of deep sound and bass, just like sonundtrack from that game.

Thank you very much, it is very important for me. Please post many Bands/Djays who produce similar music.

Thank you once again!

Rinse presents: Royal-T

This is fucking sick. Not sure how I'd describe it but it's a very good debut album from Royal-T. It's primarily a Garage/Grime album but there are elements of Dubstep, Hip-Hop and Dance in here so it's quite eclectic as far as Electronic music goes. This album is the sort of album you'd listen to in summer or when you're driving, it's a mix of chillout sounds and hype/aggression, I think it's perfectly balanced. If you were a fan of Garage or are a fan of Dubstep now, you will more than likely like this album.

I think he got it just right with the features too, I'm wary of producer albums because there's either too many vocals for me to consider it their album, or the instrumentals become tiresome because there are no vocals, but the beats are varied and don't loop too much and the vocals are just right.

Standout tracks for me, Don't Call Me Baby, Missing Aurora, Sax on the Beach, Cruel to be Kind, Inside the Ride, Work Your Body and You're Saved ft. Ruby.
