I listened to Veckatimest for the first time today. I liked it. Nothing special, but I enjoyed the fact that it didn't have an overly cliche "indie" sound to it like I was expecting.

I prematurely voted for Average and wish I could change my vote to Very Good.
The album has grown on me quite a bit. I'd heard "Two Weeks" on the local indie station a few times before the album came out, and liked it...I planned to check out the album when it was released. However, I was really unimpressed on first listen. "Two Weeks" stood out and the rest all blended together in a total snooze-fest. On my second listen, another song or two started to stand out, and my third listen (laying in the sun on the lake Saturday) really impressed me. There are still some songs I don't like much, but the ones I do like are really good. Two Weeks Fine for Now Cheerleader Ready, Able About Face Top notch songs.

I have Yellow House and I don't like it. Admittedly I've not given it much a chance, but after a few listens I have never been compelled to listen again, am I missing something, is this album vastly superior, where am I going wrong? Someone help me out here.

It's very different so even if you disliked the first one (as I did) you can still give Veckatimest a shot (I ended up liking Yellow house too).

What were you're initial reactions to Yellow house and what is it about the music from that album that now appeals to you?

I don't think I can rationally persuade you to like a piece of music so I'm not sure what the point would be in explaining what I like about it (if I can put it into words that is). But ok, my initial reaction was that it's just another faceless folk band. I think it was based on hearing Easier. Now I just love how huge (and/or orchestral?) yet mellow the entire album sounds. I think it's mostly achieved with a lot of low, deep, bass sounds and echoes of all sorts which makes it sound like it was recorded in some huge warehouse (or that it would fill it up nicely).
Veckatimest is slightly more energetic but more importantly, much more poppy (shorter songs, friendlier tunes) but still retains the mellow vibe. The production is also insanely perfectionist (I'm just listening to Cheerleader for example which seamlessly incorporates an angelic choir, there's loads of examples of sounds you discover on the 10th or 50th listen). Give it a go...:\
