More of the same really, apart from the lovely electro Lucid Dreams, overall it's not as immediate as the last two. The last track is bloody embarassing as well. I'll withold voting 'till a few more listen but i predict a very good.

I've never listened to anything these guys have done album wise before but I just grabbed this and notice that this release is on the same label as the new Animal Collective.

I'll drop a vote once I've had a few listens. |
It takes a bit of time to warm up to it. I voted very good. The first three songs are classic Franz, but I think the best part of this album is the rather strange middle part (Send him away sounds a bit like Yeasayer). Twilight omens is the best song on it I'd say. Very retro sounding. All in all very fun. If January is any indication, this year should be fantastic. Already three fantastic albums out.

I have heard Merriweather - really good. looking forward to antony and the johnsons. no idea who or what they are. |
Wow. Then I suggest you listen to I am a bird now and be amazed. Probably the best album of 2005.

Re: Tonight
What an album! So much to like about it. I love the dark, spacey, 80s computer game electronic elements in songs like Lucid Dreams. The overall response though seems lukewarm at best. Pity. |
Hmm, well, I wouldn't say it's on par with their previous two efforts, which is why I'd say it's very good instead of excellent (which the previous two were). I'm just listening to You could have it so much better and it seems so much more energetic and overall fun. But I like where they're headed, just wish they hadn't chickened out and totally went in a new direction, hinted at with Send him away and Twilight omens...plus, unlike the last two albums the closing track isn't very good, which might influence your overall impression.......I think.....:|

I very much enjoyed the first two albums (their self titled debut and You Could Have It So Much Better) and Tonight:Franz Ferdinand doesn't disappoint! I was a little surprised by how much the guitars got pushed aside for more of a electronic sound, but all artist must change, to not only keep it interesting for the fan, but also themselves. Paul Thomson's drumming is excellent throughout as usual!
Overall a step forward again for Franz! |

After a couple of listens i'm finding that I like this a lot. I like its progression, how it starts out very upbeat, then gets kind of strange near the middle, and then ends with 3 more downbeat songs. I also love the reprise of No You Girls' lyrics in Katherine Kiss Me. They could have taken out a couple tracks in my opinion, though that may just be because I LOVE 10 track albums. Very good overall, though.

I'm totally a fan of this CD. It typically got bad reviews, but I don't understand why. It still has the energy of their past music, but mixes it up a little with the old-school synth. They've always aimed to make danceable music. They accomplished it.
|
Love it...it's dancy and poppy in all the right places. Take that, Killers!
|
it's not a good album really. a few alriht tracks here and there but not up to previous output. they should never have released this and just gone off on solo projects instead. embarrassing.
|
Well, you're wrong!
|
love it
|
Decent, but not something I come back to very often. I'd personally say their moment has passed by now, music has moved on to some degree from the impact their debut had in 2004.
