Don't get your hopes up, trace. If you're expecting anything superb, you'll be in for a disappointment. Mircocastle, Weird Era Cont and Fluorescent Grey EP completely trounce any Atlas Sound record in terms of overall standard.

Somewhat, yes. It's old style Deerhunter, though. They seem to have ditched a lot of the purely ambient soundscape-based ideas that were at the forefront of Cryptograms. The album got better towards the end, where, with songs like Heatherwood and Hazel St., they began to exhibit something more akin to the template they would come to adopt on later records.

On the whole, though, I find much of the non-song elements of Cryptograms to be boring, and for me this sets it apart as a weaker record.

I think the album is solid. It was one of my favorites from '08.

I thought this album was great. They've grown since 'Cryptograms' and it shows. The first 20 minutes of cryptograms was great to me though. Deerhunter's album are meant for headphones and to be listened to in one sitting. If you listen to this album multiple times it gets better also.

Terrific stuff. Love it. EXCELLENT.

I was skeptical at first, since along with the good press always comes vitriolic blogging designed to put one off the band or album in question. Luckily, I enjoyed this immensely. On my list of favourite recent music (2008 is still recent), this comes in below the new Animal Collective, but above the recent debut solo album "Fever Ray," for which there curiously doesn't yet seem to be a thread here. . .
