If you cruise around the net a little I'm sure you'll come to the conclusion that there are apparently a lot of people who share your sentiment. In fact, I'd say those people have become just a tad tiresome with their constant nagging...you don't like them, we get it, move on...
OT: I've given it a few listens and the preliminary evaluation is as follows; not as good (or rather as immediate) as their previous albums. There aren't really any spectacular singles such as Clocks, Speed of Sound, The hardest part or Fix you, but there are some really good songs on it nonetheless. The intro, although in the leak it's rather bad quality (not sure if it's intentional), is instrumental but shows some spectacular pop-potential. Had they decided to make it into a proper song it would have been one of the best I'm sure... There aren't really any songs I'd want to skip, but I'm a fanboy so I can't be objective. The standouts for now are Viva la vida, Strawberry swing and Death and all his friends. It seems they're moving towards pop more and more, which I'm actually quite happy about...:) |

I'll give this album a go at some point, i was very disappointed with X&Y but there's enough hype for this for me to be interested. |
I'm wondering if this slick person who voted awful actually listened to the album or they just don't like Coldplay much. Because I'm not sure how an unbiased person could vote "awful"...really...
Sometimes I really want to punch people when they're being assholes over the internet ...serenity now....http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/c...er/astral2.gif |
pretty good album, I voted excellent.

There was a lot of hype for all the Coldplay albums before they were released.

Or an internet thing...;)

I can't decide whether or not to actually listen to it. It's becoming a sort of neurosis. On the one hand I already have a sort of conviction that there's little chance of me liking it, but who knows, I might be surprised.

I downloaded the two hit singles from iTunes... good enough for now.

In general, Coldplay is just an OK band for me. I'm not denying they are talented and good at what they do, I just can't really get into their music, though I do hear a song by them every once in a while that I really like. For instance, I really loved "Trouble", but despise "Yellow". Honestly, I haven't really checked them out since "Parachutes". Having said that, I tried to keep an open mind when listening to the four tracks they have on Last.fm from this album. So far, so good. I like the "poppiness" of it. It seems more upbeat and peppy than their previous work, but again, I can only base that on the few times I've checked them out in the past. I think I'll end up getting this album sooner or later.

just listened to the album and I found it very good...
also just seen the Violet Hill video with the politicians on youtube....amazing!!!!!! |
It's better than X&Y anyway.
|
No it ain't.
|
X&Y isn't even catchy.
|
Yeah it is.
|
This argument is funny. Speed Of Sound is possibly the blandest, most boring song I've ever heard. Fix You and Talk are halfway decent though.
|
Well, you're wrong.
|
It not only sounds the exact same as Clocks, but it sounds like Chris Martin forgot to write in the catchy chorus which the bands one redeeming trait.
|
 Seriously though:

Stadium arcadium is pretty musically, ah, flacid, so to speak, and look how well it did.
|
I'm thinking they already had a massive fan base ready to eat up anything. Coldplay didn't really have that with X&Y...Plus, Dani California is a fantastic tune, you gotta give it that....:\
|
Yeh, I guess the singles were alright. Dani California is by far the best on the album. I think Coldplay had a fairly large fanbase before X&Y, and their was more than enough hype surrounding their lead single to send Speed Of Sound to number 1. I think Viva La Vida really got them back on track and they really moved forward with their sound. Which sadly, I'm not a fan of.

If y'all wanna get ultra depressing, Nickelback's All The Right Reasons LP sold more than 10 million worldwide. Sigh. |

I know I haven't been here in a while, I sorta "fell off" the internet as of recently. Anyway, I'm listening to this album and I am so pleased, so happy and greatly anticipate the future of this band. Each decade there is a pop band that absolutely defines the decade(off the top of my head, I'm thinking of The Beatles in the 60's and Oasis in the 90s) and I'm sure that the 2000's are the Coldplay decade.
This album is a great step forward for them. I believe this is the band's "Rubber Soul", where they take a giant leap forward and go into a more interesting area. Bravo. |
I ve been listening to this album for a week now and I find it very good and easy listening
the title track is great btw...everything is so much better when u just dont give a damn... |
I voted Very Good.
I enjoy listening to Coldplay. This is one of their best albums yet. |
i can't stand coldplay after a rush of blood to the head, the last two albums just seem like mainstream crap
