Good album but will never come close to Pendulum by Creedance Clearwater Revival

Previous Pendulum release Hold Your Colour was a fairly easy on the ear mix of rock style arrangements and commercial Drum and Bass. It was certainly not on the cutting edge of DnB but it achieved some cross over appeal into the rock fraternity.
Unfortunately Pendulum have used that success to release an even more concentrated Rock/DnB hybrid that is not very good on either score. The idea could have developed to produce some kick arse crunchy fast bass heavy beats, yet it falls flat on it's face as not being daring enough and erring on the side of commercialism. There are a few vocal collaborations on here featuring some utterly bland and insipid vocal work, that they would'nt be out of place on a cheesy soft rock album. There are a couple of good things happening such as album opener Showdown that has some nice changes of tempo and Granite manages to sound close to what was on Hold Your Colour, but overall it is just too damn safe. Maybe the record company has won out again?

Bump:
This album was heading for a more mainstream audience, I felt like it didn't hit the spot for me as much as I'd hoped. It was like a big build up finding out they were making new material and then it kind of flopped. I think it's just too soft drum and bass now for me. My favourite songs in this album however is Propane Nightmares for being such a cool damn anthem which you can really spaz out to when you hear them live, and also The Other Side. You don't even understand!! It was sick, everyone was like what the hell this is awesome and went seriously hard. Shapeshifter is abused here too. I love hearing Fasten Your Seatbelt and Tarantula in the clubs it just makes you want to get your drugs on. They play the videos right by the dance floor too so it trips you out even more. I think I do have that track expletive style I'll check for you.
