Along with bands like Wolfmother, retro 70's hard rock has been rearing it's head and It has'nt exactly grabbed me by the short and curlies. Black Mountain's second release follows the same format as their first. Some good, some bad and some ugly.
There are the typical bombastic riff centred tracks such as opener Stormy High and Tyrants which are tolerable yet this is tempered by truly boring acoustic tracks such as Wild Wind and Stay Free. The album really comes in to it's own on tracks that have prominent keyboards such as the excellent Wucan which would'nt sound out of place on a Hawkwind album with it's spacey keyboard riff and monotonous tempo. Like wise Evil Ways features some great organ work that reminds me of ELP and Focus. All in all, a fairly average album. Worth a listen but the retro revolution still does'nt start here.

I've actually thought this was an excellent album but I could never fully get into it myself. I know the critics were raving about this album for awhile so I decided to check it out and I've had it for about a month or so, but I've only listened to the whole thing twice.
