Just had my first listen and its alright. Nothing as catchy as Steady As She Goes but a few more listens and i could really like this.

Think: the whole sound.

Piss Me Off 03-24-2008 04:59 AM

Well overall the last album was very catchy, not just SASG.
With this one it seems a lot more vast, they've tried lots of different styles, i'd have to listen to it a few more times to say whether or not it works though.

Lets just say someone put me on the right track to acquiring it.
I would have access to anything if I wasn't 'kicked' out for race related remarks.

race-related remarks? what's all this about?

pheurton 03-25-2008 11:06 AM

This is definitely growing on me.

I was banned from the place I got all my d/l
because I said honky, I was referring to a
video where some scene kid knocks a fan out
with his bass. I said
'wow, reminds me of the honky tonk man.'
The whole thing is corrupt =c

banned for writing honky tonk man? that's absurd.

Anyone mind sending me a copy again? It seems to have mysteriously disappeared from my computer...

right-track 03-25-2008 01:27 PM

The jury's still out.
Deliberation on a 'Very Good', or an 'Excellent' is still very much in the balance.

Anyone else feeling more White than Benson with this album?

This is White all the way.

sleepy jack 03-25-2008 03:40 PM

I'm on the fifth song now and I'm pretty uninterested part of me kind of wants to turn it off.

right-track 03-25-2008 03:42 PM

^ la la la la laaa...I'm not listening. :(

sleepy jack 03-25-2008 03:44 PM

I did rather enjoy the fifth song actually "The Switch And The Spur" except when it did that monotoned driving thing at the end.

right-track 03-25-2008 03:55 PM

I can see this ratings thread becoming a battleground between the forces of good and evil.

I really don't like 'Many Shades Of Black'. I keep thinking of Freddie Mercury... for some obvious reason!

sleepy jack 03-25-2008 04:16 PM

These Stones Will Shout is a nice track, I skipped to it on the suggestion of right-track. I'm turning this off for now though I'm not in the mood.

Now you say it yeah, it has that same jerky feel to it. I love Jack's vocals on it.

Yes this is certainly White. Which i find great because he is one of my favorite musicians.

This album is wonderful, i think overall much better than there last.

sleepy jack 03-30-2008 08:53 PM

After another listen I vote average. There's nothing interesting here, it seems like Jack White really doesn't have any original ideas in his head. Which sounds insulting but he does rip off other people well.

you must give him some credit for how well he may do that at times.

Not being original is what i think stops him from being MUCH better than he is.

and just curious Crow, who in your opinion is he ripping off? (not saying he doesn't, just curious who in your opinion)

sleepy jack 03-30-2008 09:37 PM

I wasn't meant for it to be insulting, I mean most artists don't do original music and just copy other artists I think Jack White does it much better than most but still I get kind of tired of hearing him rehash other people, even if it is an improvement upon them.

I've never heard a Raconteurs/White Stripes song that doesn't sound like another band. I'd say he most frequently borrows from Led Zeppelin, Billy Childish and on this album it seems like he's just going the big classic rock sound thing.

Rainard Jalen 04-01-2008 06:39 AM

Pretty unremarkable record, sadly. I thought it showed so much promise upon the initial listen, but most of the tracks failed to grow on me and the overwhelming feeling is that White hasn't brought along any particularly new ideas since Icky Thump. In fact, much of the record I could describe as sounding like Icky-gone-wrong.

Now, I don't mind playing around with the ideas of other bands and coming up with something fresh and of your own in the process, but much of this just gives the impression that White is, above all, being derivative of himself. I mean, just how much does "You Don't Understand Me" reminisce of "A Martyr For My Love For You"?

I wanted to give this so much more but instead I'm left with the bitter taste of disappointment. Average.

jacklovezhimself 04-01-2008 06:15 PM

i like it. they stick with their sound but they venture out a little with some new technology. overall pretty sweet.

mersaultsgun 06-30-2008 03:55 AM

They've got all they've got despite us

good album. Raconteurs starting to outshine jack whites 'other' project.

Not even close. I can't believe anybody could prefer this thoughtless lackadaisical drivel to the White Stripes!

WS are just way to overly simple.

Well to a certain extent.

Piss Me Off 07-01-2008 10:10 AM

Nothing wrong with simple, i like songs where everything is stripped down to the bare essentials.
Lately the Stripes seem to go for more complicated arrangements but there's still that basic feel to the songs (apart from all that bagpipe malarky) and that's a lot of their appeal to me.

KJOK 07-23-2008 11:07 AM

I can't really say which I liked better, first or this. 'Consolers Of The Lonely' has some good songs, like 'Five On The Five' but I have to admit they are hyped up a bit too much as a band, what with Jack White being considered one of the best guitarists of all time o_O.

It's just not vigorous enough to be considered a good rock album.

decadence21 08-02-2008 11:50 PM

The first time I heard the Raconteurs (besides SASG)
was live on KROQ.
I loved them instantly.

My faves are Carolina Drama and Top Yourself.

I can't wait to see them live for the first time in Sept!

WWWP 08-03-2008 02:34 AM

I've only ever heard SASG.
Am I cool enough to be pm'd a link?
