Judging by their singles TNP come across as just another British Indie band. Listening to the album creates another dimension. The sub ****ney vocal delivery is still annoying but there is musically a lot more going on than mere white guitar rock.
Jagged rythmns and forays into electronic tinged guitar recalls early 80's no wave Punishment Of Luxury and The Pop Group. I have to admit this album is a lot more expansive than their two singles allude to and amidst the average guitar indie that has crept upon the UK charts recently, they stand a little higher in their sound and aspirations.

I got into these guys early last year and sort of wrote them off as another subpar Brit band (at the time they were still getting lumped in with Nu Rave). Got into them again a few weeks ago thanks to Navigate, Navigate finally getting release, and having stopped reading music blogs almost entirely, I actually had to find out about it through a fashion blog.
Anyway, I gave them another chance, and while Beat Pyramid is at least more interesting than your average NME Britrock, it isn't that much better. They strike me as being pretty much the same as every other current British band, except instead of being influenced by the Sex Pistols they're influenced by PiL. |
