While this could be a continuation of their first album in terms of ambience and texture, it's a huge step forward in terms of them finding their own personal style. I've found their lyrics very incongruous with the music, not to mention embarrassingly clichéd, but they seem to have at least learned to make very good use of vocals (the evidence is there from the moment you put on the first track!). Simple but well-formed instrumental harmonies are consistent throughout this EP and English House can only be described as exquisite.
It is evident from contrasting these songs with their first album that there great potential here. It probably requires more listening but I can't see myself returning to this EP with any great haste. |

the early leaking of the album actually makes me quite sad. this one guys has got to be a complete screw-up somewhere or other. sub-pop have clearly been REALLY active in trying to make sure that the EP doesn't appear anywhere, and now the album is leaked three months early? that's got to be a huge slap in the face to quite a few people. i wonder what was responsible.
