Oh Stephen! You and your clever album titles, 69 Love Songs for 69 songs of love and Distortion! Clever again, someones been listening to Jesus and Mary Chain I see. It works very well here, even though reading through various reviews I see many people disagree. I think it adds this sense of muffled division to the music that gives it an entirely new level of beauty that would have been otherwise unobtainable if the songs had been perfectly clean. This is a great pop album, not original and not as good as my favorite 69 Love Songs but very good nonetheless.

Hell f'uckin' straight. But it goes beyond that - rigorous repeated listens reveal that the vast majority of tracks on this album are just not strong. Not by the standards of what this guy is capable of, anyway. Doubtless he's got a few more top notch albums left in him. This one wasn't one of them.
