I voted very good, this is my favorite Animal Collective and the album that got me into them. I think it's their most accessible too. Peacebone, For Reverend Green and Fireworks are probably my favorite songs. I can't really think of a way to describe this album.

I didn't get into AC until Sung Tongs, and I'm still not really a fan of their older stuff..it is so hard to listen to. Strawberry Jam is my favorite of theirs, and one of my favorites of all time!! Definitely one of those that I was completely addicted to for a while. Anyways I decided to review it kinda. If it is too incoherent or pointless tell me. I really like the singing on the whole album.
1: 'Peacebone': Fun jumpy electro beat. Fun to sing along with with. somewhat playful lyrics, 'Dinosaurs', 'monsters', 'brocoli', 'bubbles'. Crazy vocal effects screaming in the background. The video is really well produced and is fun to watch...very different but expresses such a feeling a love. YouTube - Animal Collective - Peacebone "It's not my words that you should follow; its your insides." 2/5 2: 'Unsolved Mysteries': Not especially interesting, till it picks up (around 1:30), but then I don't really like the singing and lyrics. It's just not melodic enough for me when it picks up. cool bubble/liquid sound effects at times though. "to find suddenly he is Jack the Ripper" 0/5 3: 'Chores': Kind of a choatic beat and singing in the beginning. Really hectic then chills out slowly in stages. Talks about doing his work, then planning on getting stoned after ...then you hear a bong toke. Then gets super mellow and repeats lines which get really slow and draaawn out. Really serene ending with lofty vocal sounds and soft pulsating drum beat. The sounds of relaxing at the end of a fast day. "I want to get so stoned, and take a walk out in the light drizzle". 2/5 4: 'For Reverend Green': My 2nd favorite. Fun to scream along with and make mouth noises 'shhhhhh chkacha'. I think it might the most "poppy" of all the songs.. at least the singing. Lots melodic "wooing" as well. I can't really explain the sound of the song tho. "Red negativity in the street/ Maybe it's the dirt, maybe it's the heat/ A baby on the bus smiled at me so easy" 3/5 5: 'Fireworks': My favorite on SJ, awesome transition into this song. Less chaotic than 'Rev Green'... this is much more quiet but still has loud singing. cool piano and high singing melody together sounds really good and relaxing. Some really abstract lyrics which are tough to make out. I think I overrate this song a bit so I'll say 3/5. 6: '#1': Crazy electro delay effects and voice effect. I was psyched when I saw they were gonna play on Conan and they played this song I was confused. You can hardly understand him and it doesn't sound familiar. Really caught on to it later tho. I guess it was a perfect song for THEM to play on a "big stage" maybe, like the opposite of a single. I really like the 'Oh oh oh oh, doo doo doo doo do"s in the background. It's about a family sending off their young and giving them warnings. kinda sad. 2/5 7: 'Winter Wonder Land': There are weak spots for me, at the beginning of the verses the vocals are not super pleasing to me. But they build up well to happy sounding singing. "If you don't believe in happiness, then man you must be down" 0/5 8: 'Cuckoo': I don't especially like the very beginning... sounds more like their older sound tho. but then the piano kicks in very peacefully. The piano part sounds familiar, like so good it almost sounds like a sample. Maybe it is? But then ravaging drums kick in with a very slow beat over the piano and singing. Until it gets crazy for the chorus "i'm goin cukoo cukoooo cukooooo" with quacking sound effects. .5/5 9: 'Derek': Beginning sounds like a disney film, like Bambi. with little animals hopping around. Happy feel good singing until half way through it breaks into a marching band drum beat with hand claps. Such a cool transition. 1/5 I don't know what is up with my ratings, but you get the idea; check out the higher rated ones if you wanna feel out the album.
