Default Song about the colour Blue

Hello all,

I'm trying to find a song that from what I can remember talks about what the colour blue is like. I know I don't have the correct words but I think it went something like, "Blue is the deepest of colours/Blue is the colour of lovers/
Without wanting to offend, it sounds like quite a whiney song (in the way it's sung) so not a folk song or ballard or up tempo as such. I thought it might have been sung by an American rock pop band like Ugly Kid Joe but it might have been earlier than that and by a single artist. The singer is male if that helps but any suggestions or info anyone has is greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance

In before "I'm blue daba-dee daba-die".

First things I thought of was Joni Mitchell and Kate Bush.

But from your description (Ugly Kid Joe), I would guess not.

Not to burst anyone's bubble, but I don't believe that either Kate Bush or Joni Mitchell is male.

I agree it might have been a cover. In terms of similar ish sounding songs, think Mellow Yellow by Donovan (I think!) Which is why it could be a cover and originally recorded earlier than a band like Ugly Kid Joe.

This is the first song that I thought of, but now I realise that it covers most of the rainbow:-

I'm also guessing that John Boulter isn't a member of Ugly Kid Joe

Perhaps it was an Ugly Kid Joe version of Blue Moon?

Haha. That's quite a wild version, Guybrush -but I think, predictably, that I prefer Dylan's Self Portrait version.

Another "Blue" song, that comes with lyrics in case you want to sing along :-

Yes, there are better versions I checked out Dylan and it ain't bad! I also like Ella Fitzgerald's.

Thinking of Ella Fitzgerald and jazz again reminds me of this swing revival song from the Squirrel Nut Zippers.

It could've been covered by Ugly Kid Joe perhaps?

edit:

Also, forgot to mention. Football anthems? Yuuck!
