Does anyone know this song
Does any one remember a song about an American Radio DJ who locks himself in his studio and plays all his favourite songs (rather than the playlist he has been told he has to play). It's similar to Harry Chapin's W.O.L.D. and I think it dates back to the 70's or early eighties.

Hi Jane. May be completely wrong here, but have you tried a film starring Robin Williams called " Good morning Vietnam." Seem to remember that it is about a radio d.j. who fits the bill somewhat. Contains a song by an American group called the Vouge's and a song called " five o'clock world " although this would put the track in the 60's with the film being made in the 80's. Not sure this will help, as may be totally wrong.

Not to nitpick, but there are similarities in the description to that movie, however I think Williams' character (based on a real person) was never told he had to play certain music, just sort of pushed in that direction. I don't believe he ever locked himself in, but of course I may be wrong and unfortunately I have no alternative to offer, though I will have a look and see if anything comes up. It's a bit odd that you mention WOLD, since in that song there is, again, no intimation of Harry's character rebelling by playing what music he likes, in fact the lyric runs "playing all the hits for you, wherever you may be".
