Black Lives Matter music?
 

Hello all.

I'm into old school folk, not so much into more modern music.

I'm putting together a playlist of songs about events, for a radio show.

"Titanic"
"Run Come See Jerusalem"
"Sinking Of The Reuben James"
"Ballad Of Ira Hayes"
"Joe Hill"
"Pretty Boy Floyd"
"Battle of Maxton Fields"

Those kinds of songs.

I've been looking for some songs about more contemporary events and am coming up empty.
"Ohio" and "I'm Changing My Name to Chrystler" are a little older than I'm looking for.

"United Breaks Guitars" and Toby Keith's "Ballad of Balad" aren't quite what I'm looking for, but are more contemporary than the others.

Does anyone know a song, any genre, about the Black Lives Matter issues? Is there a "Ballad Of Michael Brown" or something similar out there?

The official story is that in 1914, Joe Hill murdered John Morrison and was justly executed.

But the song tells the other story, that the copper barons framed a labor organizer to silence him.

It also tells the higher truth that Joe Hill never died (he's been spending time in China lately).

Without the song, almost nobody would know any of those three things.

100 years from now, what will people know about Leonard Peltier, Michael Brown, Sean Bell, ....? Or will they only ask "what are those names"?

I'm not particular about musical genre, but it is important that the unofficial stories get told and remembered.

I guarantee that I've done much more research on this than you have strictly based off of arguments like this.

Micheal Brown was an ******* kid that may or may have not went for the cops gun. There is evidence pointing towards both points of view. At this point it's up to what you want to believe rather than what's true. But what's true to me is regardless there were better alternatives to handling the situation and using some of the petty ******* **** he did to justify his death is disgusting to me. Most people I know have done worse.

He deserved to die.

Second, when a subject is this sensitive, saying something like "he deserved to die" is either looking for attention, being intentionally or accidentally racist, or just trolling. I don't know which you're going for, but you're going to piss a lot of people off with that attitude. Why do you think he deserved to die? Justify, man.
