I "know" we're created in God's image, but I've never heard of any concept of a Discarded Image.

Maybe "tainted" is a better word.

Micheal Brown was an ******* kid that may or may have not went for the cops gun. There is evidence pointing towards both points of view. At this point it's up to what you want to believe rather than what's true. But what's true to me is regardless there were better alternatives to handling the situation and using some of the petty ******* **** he did to justify his death is disgusting to me. Most people I know have done worse.

The overall issue isn't Michael Brown himself. He became a symbol (not the most sympathetic symbol) for the fact that in today's America, blacks are being shot and killed by cops at an alarming rate. "Stupid"/"non-compliant"/"unfortunate"/"mistaken" is far more likely to be fatal to black men than it is to be for white men.

Somehow Brown became the symbol for this problem.

Then why did you capitalize "Discarded Image"? Gives the impression that it's a concept recognized by theologians.

it's the lazy theologian
the clumsiest of poets
stumbling through the poplar grove
and doesnt even notice

activist-songs...

Not precisely.

Titanic, Ira Hayes, Reuben James aren't particularly activist songs. (Neither is D-Day Dodgers neither Joshua Fit The Battle Of Jericho, which are on the list, but I didn't mention in the OP.)

Songs that relate historic events.

Of course that will include some activist songs. (There are quite a few labour songs I decided against. e.g. Ludlow Massacre.)

The overall theme is that songs are a way of memorializing the past and the people from the past. The official story isn't always completely factually accurate one.
Neither is the song version (c.f. Pretty Boy Floyd.)
But the song is the version that will be remembered. (Was Old King Cole really merry? That's what his fiddlers three said, so that's all we know about him.)
