Default 80s Instrumental Synth Song

I have been trying to track down a piece of 80s instrumental music and I can only recall the melody.

It was a synth piece, rather soft. Here are the notes for the melody, though I'm not 100% sure I have it in the same key...

A B C D E D C B A B (hold longer) C B A

A B C D E D C B A B (hold longer) C B A

C D E E G C D

C D E E G C D

D C B C

C B A B

B A G (A or F)

A C B A

(and then repeat many times as the foundation of the song)

You don't mean Ultravox?

No, it was a pure instrumental. Ultravox is in the right ballpark, but it sounded like something more along the lines of Jean Michel Jarre.

It was the kind of thing that would be used for an interpretive dance routine in the late 80s...

I have, and it's nothing of theirs that I know. And I've listened to most or all of their songs at one point. But a good suggestion.

I gave Jean Michel Jarre as my example of who this song sounds like because, while it's something Tangerine Dream could have done, the song sounds a little more "stripped down" and minimal like JMJ.

With this bit what sort of tempo are we talking? Are they all equal 1/4 or 1/8 notes?

I think:

A B C D E D C B A B (hold longer) C B A

A(1/8) B(1/8) C(1/8) D(1/8) E(1/8) D(1/8) C(1/8) B(1/16) A(1/16) B(1/2) C(1/16) B(1/16) A(1/2) (maybe then rest a half note and repeat)

On second thought, the very first A is probably a 1/16.

You probably gave up on this thread a long time ago but would it be David Bowie's Subterraneans?
