Default Canadian female singer rock song 90s-2000s identify? (hard one) please help

i remember from my trip to canada iv heard this song from a female candian rock singer, kind of rock ballad song., the only lyrics i remember from it is: "...living the american dream..."

i know its not a lot but hope som1 can help thanks!

Perhaps Alanis Morissette is the default Canadian female singer. It seemed like she was at one time, that's for sure.

hey that neco case is quite similar to that singer i wanted, alternative country rock, ballads and all that...

i remember she was white kind of country looking like in the album cover...
