Classic rock song

Hey guys, registered here today so I could ask this. Heard this song in a pizzeria last night between The Velvet Underground and The Zombies :p Have searched but can't find anything. The song had a similar vibe to Crimson and Clover with the reverby kind of emo but not really type of vocals. The lines I remember something along the lines of "shadows of the ashes of children". This song was the ****ing jam and I'm gonna cry if I can't figure it out. It was kind of a depressing tune but still of exceedingly artistic and boner inducing qualities.
