Does anyone know sings the trailer song on the new previews for the show Vikings on history channel. I think the song came out last year but could never find out who sings it. Alternative rock I think

It took google .24 seconds to show me that this promo..

..features this song, Sail by Awolnation. Not a very good song.

However, the music in the opening sequence is much better

it's If I Had a Heart by Fever Ray

Let's make it one then. I suspect that there will be plenty of speculation presented as fact in this new series because it's not exactly clear why the vikings did what they did. Sure, they needed resources. Yes, they had a violent culture and maybe just got bored. But why exactly all the raping and pillaging?

The History Channel already made a doc about the Vikings. The old one is a scholarly documentary though, not a scripted historical fiction.

Well isn't that just kinda what armies did in those days? Wasn't that half the reason that people joined armies of any nation and went off on wars of conquest? To get plunder and slaves? And I guess rape's just sort of a byproduct of all that.

Sort of. But most armies had clearer goals and were less brutal, at least according to popular history. The stories of their chaotic, terrifying raids may result more from the fact that there were only a few literate people (Christian people, of course) in the villages that were plundered, and they may have exaggerated a bit when they wrote down what happened.

I imagine the stories probably were exaggerated. Vikings didn't have their own system of writing (I'm pretty sure that runes were just used for religious purposes) so it's not like we have their point of view, and I'm sure the Christians would have exaggerated. Especially about heathens. Of course, vikings did basically make a religion of battle, so who knows?

It will be pretty interesting if anybody ever unearths a runic Viking account that essentially says "It's lonely and boring here. We're just gonna sail away, kill everybody we find, steal all their stuff, and generally fuck shit up. Lol they'll all be so scared"

Join The Vikings on Facebook!

January 12, AD 944: anyone wanting to join the big raid on Sunday needs to report to Hlarrvasrksj Docks by Dawn or you won't get on board the longship. Don't bitch about it later! Be on time and you'll be on the raid. Send a black raven with a message to Red Rolf, second tent, Hoarsgarth Settlement. No women.

BTW bring sandwiches! It's a long voyage. Oh yeah, and

No women.
