"****, you have a kid?" That's what I say almost every day to myself! It's somehow amazing to me still that I do. I feel just the same as I always did, but...I have a kid!!!!
The patriarchy definitely didn't win with this one, Tumor. Not only does he have my last name (I won a coin toss), but also I'm raising him to question all assumptions about gender, etc. He picks up antiquated idea from school...stuff like "there are girl toys and boy toys," so I have to do a lot of debriefing when he gets back to command central. Sigh!
Yep, I'm anti-consumerism, too, Tumor, for the same reasons...except (sheepish grin) after my 20s I'm afraid I became quite a consumer. I was great up through my 20s...all I owned was my bicycle, a used table and chairs, a couple book shelves, an old desk, a few old lamps, a lot of second-hand clothes, some instruments and books, and a foam mattress and cheap sheets and kitchenware! Then I hit my 30s...got a house, car, child, toys. Sigh. :(
